Like I said location, here you would have a hard time finding a dependable driver for anything less than 30. You might get someone for 20 bucks, but I would not want him in a tricycle if I was responsible for him, so cal is not a lot different.

If the driver never hits a public road, technically he doesn't even need a drivers license let alone a CDL.

I was thinking about that. Do they need a CDL? I’m gonna guess that legally they don’t, but then the driver would need to be trained and that can take an entire day.

Me thinks you will have to have insurance, and I would bet they will want a qualified driver in it.
I would also bet that if a nonlicensed driver tears up a bunch of trailers, that the lawyers will have them some fun with a non cdl holder running the rig.

legally probably not, but business wise, I sure wouldn't just put Joe blow never passd a drug test guy in it.

24.50 to 27.00 here in Wisconsin and time and a half after 40 , most yard dogs i know work a 3-2-2, 12 hour shifts banging out 80 to 100 trailers a night and yard audits , its not a old mans game nor a newbies you better have your game face on.

Theres not a lot of margin on yard management after you spend 117k on a new Autocar X2 and dont even bid on it if you don't have a back up spotter.

Driver turnover is twice the over the road rate , they drop like flys with no call no shows or walkouts , ghost employees you name it.

If you dont pay your drivers at least 20 a hour with ot after 40 and have a newer spotter and a mechanic on call 24/7, your in for some major headaches.

Make sure you have some tools onsite and fuel for when they rip the airlines and power cord off and the mirrors , only the strong survive your client will and can broom you with the 1st service failure.

He would require a CDL if he wants to be insured properly. Yeah who needs insurance. o_O:D

I think @Western flyer is on to something. Dude sick of dragging a box for 35cpm that hasn't seen his family for two months would jump all over that. That being said tho it can be a stressful job at times, I have filled in at work when the jockey was on vacation at you seem to sit for an hour then have to move 25 trailers at once over and over again lol. We use that job as the stepping stone for warehouse guys to get comfortable with trailers before training them on the road so there is that possibility too, use it as a training job.

Yeah, it may actually work, but that’s the type of boss you want to run away from. It’s like Molo Logistics posting their loads at $1 a mile or less. How are they still in business? I suppose they’re always knuckleheads out there.
