Well have #### sure had better hometimes than this one was. Not sure yet but may have lost the G/F. Oh well.

Idle policies will not change for big companies until deaths are caused due to it or legislative actions are taken. Wonder if OSHA can do anything under safety violations? Might try writing your congressman and asking then to look into it otherwise, the only other option is to find another company. Good luck.

Has anyone followed this link yet ?
I'm not sure if trying to sleep with a truck window open is what caused this trucker's murder, but the web site proposes some specific legislation that could correct some of the problems we're talking about here. It also has sample letters to Senators and Congressional officials, as well as a directory of how and where to contact each legislator: http://www.congress.org/congressorg/directory/congdir.tt.
As a community we can blog, rant and vent about the inequities of this industry OR we can use the many avenues that our great country makes available to us to effect change.
That is just what this young trucker's widow is endeavoring to do with her web-site referred to in the qouted post above.

Has anyone tried using Idel-Aire as a supplement to just Ideling? I was thinking that if you can use it a few times a month (not more then the amount you would get for a fuel bonus) that might help keep the idel percentage down and still keep one comfortable. Just a thought. What do ya think?

    I don't remember, I believe I was around 35-36%.

I'm on a 34 right now... its about 90 outside & this truck won't shut down becuase it can't keep up with the heat.

Central spend money on something to keep the drivers happy & safe... :biggrin_2559:

This doesn't matter to the company at all. Whatever the local law is won't help us.

I use it when I can. The problem with it is that they are few & far between & they can get pretty pricey.

Hey Panhandle, Hope you and the G/F can work out the hometime problem.

Techiekate, JJ and I joined idle-aire(Gold membership) and it was pretty expensive to use it on your 10hr break and why should you have to pay outta your own pocket to stay cool.

I am pretty sure we paid around $20-25 for a 10hr break admittedly JJ did get a movie on it one night:biggrin_25516:

We have an APU so we don't have a problem.......I really feel for Company drivers with no way to stay cool unless you want to sit in the drivers room and then you aren't getting proper rest!

6pak, When are you taking me for coffee????

Its my understanding that the state of Utah is looking into some of this due to it being illegal in there state.

I have also heard about at least one pending case about a female driver who had heat stroke in here truck becuase she couldn't idle it.

This is all talk as far as I know, I have not seen anything in print about it.

Dumb question but are trainees health insured when they go out for the 28 days with their trainer? If not when does the insurance become effective for drivers?

Central offer you health insurance after you are hired and I think you have to be with them for 3 months........Not sure on the price but it wasn't to bad.

The insurance is through United Healthcare. It starts the 1st day of the month following 60 days of employment. (Employment date is the date of your upgrade after being with your trainer!) We have a family plan including vision and dental and it runs us roughly $120 a week for a family of 4. If you are single and only covering yourself it runs around $70 a week. Hope that helps answer your question.

So hired is after the 28 days and passing the last test or after the first 14 days and 3 day orientation? Thanks Jess

Ok thanks Newtruckerwidow, read yours after I wrote this.

$70 a week, I am paying about $74 a week on my own now with Aetna. What is the deductable? Mine is $2500. So far doesn't sound like a good deal unless the deductable is $500 or less.

If they give 2500-3000 miles a week then not so bad I guess..
