:biggrin_25525:Yeah, there is cheap freight coming out of Fla. At those rates, you cannot make a profit, but you are moving. So say some O/O's. Don't make sense to me, so you pay your fuel, but put wear and tear on your equipment. Huh?

Someone will haul that load for cheap money. The broker knows it. Any O/O needs to be on top of the situation and plan, plan, plan............:biggrin_25525:

Kind of like the saying "I'm losing money on the miles I'm driving so I need to drive more miles". Seems counter productive to me but that's just me.

Here is another simmular idea. A farmer will lose money if he does not plant his crops. The same farmer will only lose half as much money if DOES plant his crops. SOMETIMES TRUCKING SOUNDS A LOT LIKE THIS FArMERS SITUATION

You can take a loss in a backhaul market, but you have to continually three leg your lanes in order to stay profitable in the long run. Basically the win win is to move a load from a headhaul market to a headhaul market. If you take a load from a headhaul market to a backhaul market, then you need the shortest load out of the backhaul market to return you to a headhaul market. Most certainly would not want to take a load out of a backhaul to a backhaul. If you average that 3 leg out, need to show a profit or better off passing on that load. Once you know where your going to on your load out of that backhaul, preferably going to a headhaul, start planning ahead to find another load going from headhaul to headhaul. Always watching your three leg. It can pay on the average to go to that backhaul area if your headhaul rate supports coming back out.

There are websites out there that track avg freight rates. They can be broken down to the type of freight that one hauls, dry van, reefer, flatbed, tanker, etc. Then can go by state of zip code. Zip code is the best, as different areas of states can have a huge swing in rates. Also can run radius', sometimes can take a load to Atlanta, and might be worth the deadhead to move a load out of Birmingham, if the rate commands it (just a example). Just google, freight Rate index, or Freight Rate history. Truckload freight rates, etc. At least a half dozen sites that track rates. Of course have to pay for the service. If anybody knows of services that are free, might be helpful to post them if possible.

Remember Kiddies, always remember: True Statement: "One Gets What One Pays For". This is especially true in the information business.

They still have wiggle room actually. They are downsizing and will continue to downsize, but my prediction on their profits is: they will fare better than many other companies in the transportation industry because they have a winning business model. The business model is to gouge people like me. It is genious, an dI plan on returning the favor one day.:biggrin_25525:
