I recommend the Merritor shoes, guaranteed against rust jacking,(causing linings to crack) They’re painted blue.Brand new. No core charge, I paid $60 a set. I put a set on the steers, plan on doing the same for Drives, when needed. They’re worth the extra $15. along with not having to return cores.

You know it's sad that's it costs less to change the brakes on a semi than on my pickup truck.

And we still have posters here glad they are too cheap and will brag about how much they are saving by going down a mountain on just the (company) trailer brakes.....
Also, all I've seen are drum brake prices. Anyone got a price for discs to compare to? -
I'd think TA very likely has insurance for this, and if not I can guarantee their pockets are deeper than mine and could lawyer up to fight it, if not just settle. Or maybe I'm just making a mountain out of a mole hill and this isn't really an issue.FlaSwampRat Thanks this.

Other then ASE certified.
Are there qualifications to doing brakes?
Cars are in the same situation. But you don't hear of cars having accidents because of brake failure.
You hear about semi's all the time. Usually because drivers are too lazy to check their brake adjustment. USUALLY. There's the occasion worn out warped drum too. -
TA doesn't pay enough to get guys with any decent ASE plus that just means you are good at taking tests lol. I have a ASE L1 ( master tech) and it literally had never done me any good lol.LoneRanger Thanks this.

I've only read about ASE since we don't use it up here (full blown 6,000 hr/4 year apprenticeship in order to be a mechanic). Seems like there isn't much to getting ASE certified other than a few multiple choice test questions.
FlaSwampRat Thanks this. -
It really means nothing lol. I just did it so I could hang the sign out front when I owned my own shop. It was a LOT of multiple choice questions in my case lol but I agree it really means nothing. No practical application like a welding cert. @War-Eagle have a valid point with insurance and deeper pockets thoAModelCat Thanks this.

They're pretty sticky up here about it. I've heard rumours from some of the new apprentices that they're making it a 5 year apprenticeship now because of all the emissions equipment and autonomous stuff.snowwy and FlaSwampRat Thank this.

It means something at the dealers. Those that have it. Get more work. That's how it was 20 years ago anyways.
For me. It only mattered that I was safety and emissions certified to test vehicles. Nothing else mattered for doing work or getting a job.FlaSwampRat Thanks this. -
When we moved up to pa my inspection and emissions license were gold and the ASE didn't mean anything. So I totally agreesnowwy Thanks this.
