Unfortunately my Cummins Guru has been very busy and I haven't had a chance even to follow up with him, so I was wondering if anyone knows a part number or what alternator I would need for a Cummins big cam or n14.

I need to have the smaller 20190820_130859.jpg type that has an internal fan. As you can see by the photo the alternator with the external fan won't fit in my truck.

I am not sure what you have going on there, are you sure that mount is not for a delco alt.?

Well the thing is I put the big cam Cummins in a 95 Freightliner fld120.

For whatever reason the original leece Neville alternator that was on that engine in the other truck does not have enough clearance at the front crossmember. That is the Mount that came with that big cam 3 engine, and I have another big cam that the mount is identical.

So my Cummins Guru suggested that I put a lighter smaller internal fan alternator on there and that should solve the problem.

That alternator will fit that I have, but there's almost no adjustment and the external fan will actually hit the crossmember.

The mount for the n14 looks the same to me, but maybe it's not the same. I see photos of other fld120 with the n14 they have big 36 SI alternators. The blocks between the 855 and the n14 are the same. The n14 will sit in that truck in the identical position my big cam sits.

Now that you got me thinking about it I'm wondering if there is a different mount that is just for Freightliner.

Here is an FLD 120 with an n14 with one of those 36 SI alternators.

I would be tempted to swap the mount from the N14 and see if it changes anything, sometimes looks can be deceiving.

Just get a 26si in a J mount. This one has a internal fan. Two types alternator mounts. Pad mount or J mount. 160 amp is more then enough in almost all applications.

Is there a difference between the 26 SI and the 24 SI?

The Delco Remy site gave me part numbers for 24 SI. I see what you mean about the J mount. Looks like anything with a J mount would work.

The problem is I don't have a mount for the n14.. it would probably cost me like $80 to buy one just to see if it would work. For $180 I can buy a brand new Delco Remy alternator that will fit.

I can't find my notes on the alternator I put on my 379 w/ 444xt. All I have on my house computer is a link to the install instructions:
    http://www.delcoremy.com/documents/...eets/installation-instructions-24si-28si.aspx

I'll be at my shop a little later and can get the specifics. I can get measurements to see if it will work with what you've got too

It came with a Leece Neville that was bigger and more square than round. The new one is smaller, and has more clearance (and puts out more than the old one)

C6A725F0-F7F4-44F0-826D-889324BD14B7.jpeg It’s tight to get in there with s tape measure. Here’s what I’ve got under the alternator:
