Hi, I have 21 months over the road and came of the road in 12/99 to take a warehouse managers job. The warehouse has resently shut down and I am looking to go back over the road. Most companys are telling me that because I have not been active over the road in the past 36 months that because of ins. they can not put me on. I have current class a cdl and current medical card. As warehouse manager I figured wts. and space for all outbound loads and thained the dock hands to spot trailors. I can drive anything, anywhere. I have right at 200K safe miles with a clean mvr. Can anyone help me.

Thank You and Have a Great Day
    Richard

Welcome prospector.... I know the feeling of having previous expereince but not having it count for anything since its not "current" ... From what all I have read on here your best bet would be if you can find a local company to drive for.... other than that it'd probably be going through one of the training schools with a major carrier... Or check with the smaller ones and see if taking a "refresher" course might get ya qualified to drive for them..

Good luck in your adventures and welcome to the forums

This would be a good note to get in one of the sticky's. You have to keep your OTR current. I was told but have not verified it that you can register with a temp agency as an OTR driver and that will do the trick.

Without going with a much smaller company, you'll need a refresher. It takes 2 weeks and costs about half the full course.

Few agree with it and it's expensive and a pain, but if you knock it out quick you won't be back here in 2 months still looking anyway. Best to get a pre-hire before spending the money.

Same happened to me, 4 years ago. I was off the road for 14 months, after 22 years driving. The few companies that would talk to me wanted to send me out with a trainer for 2 to 6 weeks. The 'trainer' may have had as little as 6 months experience. You will have to keep talking to companies, or expect to go out with a trainer at one of the big outfits...
