What should I charge/ or should I charge for a short haul (290 miles) that the shipper wants me to pick up on Friday and deliver on Monday? DHO is only 29 miles from my storage unit where the truck is parked. It doesn’t benefit me because my 70 just restarted so I’d be losing my truck and trailer over 3 -4 days. I’m a dually/ LTL carrier and this is happening a lot lately. I’m turning the loads down but wondering if there’s a market here.
Storing a load on FB over the weekend.

How can we tell you what to charge? It's your business, so you can charge whatever you want (as long as someone willing to pay).
Offer them the same rate as you would get for a 2-3 days run minus the fuelsinglescrewshaker Thanks this. -

$1500 sounds about right. Dune T is right though.

Well, you can try, but they aren't going to pay it. If they do, if they are willing to pay you a dime to 'store' it, I hope you'll come back and share.
You bid on and accepted and signed a rate con on the load with a pick up and delivery time, what more is there to say?beastr123 Thanks this. -
I haven’t signed anything. I may try it. Thanks for the feedback

If it's fork, or crane loaded what I'm about to say has little bearing..
I've done this with self loading equipment a few times. Moffett, backhoe, skidsteer. I even live in the city limit. Have a 6' wood fence around my yard, with a 12' wide rolling gate. Park their freight in my yard, do another short haul, or pickup more freight heading the same way. Usually I only do this when I want to be home. Most I've ever squeezed from a broker was $350 for load friday, deliver Tuesday. Not enough to let the truck sit idle, but not bad when you've planned to be home, or can still run other freight while it sits in my backyard..FlaSwampRat Thanks this. -
Sorry folks I just saw these posts. I appreciate the input. It was a skid steer loader, but they ended up changing the pick date so it worked out and I didn't have to pass it up. I have a few spaces in a secured covered storage area where I keep my stuff. I did however get 2 nights hotel stay last week from a broker because I got there to pick on a Friday and it wasn't ready. Was cheaper than the TONU for them and it wasn't worth wasting the entire load and my relationship with them on a small issue. I didn't have my next pick until Mon morning in MS anyway. I stayed Sat/ Sun in TN, picked Monday morning, picked my MS up in the evening vs the morning and came back to Texas. I got an early 34 reset out of the gig and they covered most of the hotel. I actually got to rest, because when I reset at home momma's got me running crazy! Y'all be safe out there. I'm still going to try to ask for "storage" some. Just to see the laughs I get, maybe someone will bite and I'll post back.
