Delivering to a construction site in downtown Charlotte, NC. Note on the load assignment said to call "Terrance" and receive delivery instructions.

I called Terrance. Terrance told me to deliver to the next road over, and to make a circuit so that I was facing north on the next road over.

I followed Terrance's instructions. Parked on the indicated road, facing north. Turned on my 4-ways and blocked up a travel lane. Waited for Terrance. The road I was parked on was nice, wide, very truck friendly, easy in, easy out.

Terrance isn't here today. Some other guy came out. Told me to make the same circuit I'd made earlier, but this time park on a cross street where they would unload me.

I followed these new instructions. And this is what lies ahead of me if I should try to leave in the forward direction.

Even if I could make that turn (which I can't), I would be going the wrong way.

I've already told them they're going to have to block traffic and help me back out of here. Should be fun.

Update: They have decided that my current spot is also no good, and want me in a new spot. The new spot will require me to back up through the intersection as mentioned above, then make a right turn, then go the wrong way down a one-way road, all so I can straighten up and back up through the same intersection I just went through. At which point I will be facing south on the street where I was originally told to park facing north.

Already on an hour's worth of detention, too.

Delivered load of furniture to a halfway house in slc this morning. They had a bus load of ppl to unload my trailer, lol! Went faster than I expected. Got a brokered load out in the middle of no where Wyoming at Ciner. I told Chris next time they might want to make sure a driver has all the required safety stuff before sending someone out here. Most van drivers don't carry steel toe boots. Fortunately I did have steel toe boots and pants along with the safety vest, hardhat and safety glasses. Glad I got prescription safety glasses so I can see, lol!

Sooooo... first time calling a safety that negatively impacted a delivery... they sent me a TO to move my reefer unit from Jacksonville to Chesapeake, VA to be emergency cold storage for a Walmart prepping for the hurricane...

I verified “you want this where???”

As it would have been a race to beat the storm there anyway.... but yup... that’s what they wanted... ok... rolled north... couple hours into it I’m watching the radar and it’s just not making any sense to race the storm up I-95, while driving through it to attempt to get ahead of it... and drop the trailer when surely there is someone closer in the RVA area... called in... nope, can’t cover the loads we have so no one there can move a reefer to this Walmart.

Ok, drive a couple more hours... still not liking what I’m driving into and the truck is now starting to dance around with that empty trailer in tow... I stop to fuel... ran into two Abilene drivers... one heading north is shutting down due to wind and the other one was heading south...

So I called a Safety and shut down... didn’t want to but there is nothing in this trailer worth tipping my truck... literally nothing...

Broker called me back offering $300 to “take the back roads” to get there... I explained, money has nothing to do with it and there are no good back roads to get there that would not put me there even later than I would be there now... which means in the hurricane even moreso... simply a safety call... he was fine and understood.

Hurricane watch is over and done with. Time to leave out in the morning. Bobtail back to Jacksonville to pick up an empty reefer then load up in Riceboro Georgia at noon.

Got a swap tomorrow to get me to WA for my hometime and figures I get a driver that was being difficult. She was not happy and complaining and questioned me about my hometime if was emergency or not....so much for helping another driver when needed. Thought she was going to refuse and not do it and I was going to have to miss my doc appt. Bet it if was the other way around she raise hell if another driver complained and what not.

Dude, I’m putting this right here and not give a rats arse if anyone disagrees with me. If I’m ever on a load, high miles or not, and I’m contacted by dispatch to swap a driver that has SCHEDULED hometime, it’s a done deal. That’s how we role. This chick that was told to swap was completely out of line for questioning you about your hometime. In fact, it’s none of her business, her job was to follow orders. She was told the swap was to get a driver home for their scheduled time off. That’s the extent of her job, swap. Period.
