    Hi all,

I have a question specifically for male drivers who, like myself, are tall (I'm 6'0") and overweight (lets say over 275, since I'm not gonna tell my exact weight).

My question is this: What kind of pants and/or shorts have you found to be most comfortable when driving?

If this sounds like a silly question, let me explain why I ask.

Until now, I've been mostly a white collar worker. My closet had nothing but business slacks. However, that seemed inappropriate for working about a dirty, dusty, greasy machine. So, I went out and bought some good blue jeans to wear during my training drive sessions.

That was a mistake. After sitting in that driver seat for just 2-3 hours (nevermind a full 11) the back of my legs hurt because the jeans bunched up and folded over them selves along the back of my legs. That combined with the seat being shorter than my legs was not pleasant. My instructor said he would not recommend jeans for driving and that he used to wear sweat shorts.

That seams to make sense except that sweat shorts (or sweat pants for that matter) don't exactly look professional or even casual. IMHO they look like what a trucker would wear, not a professional truck driver.

So, for all you long-legged, heavy men that not only drive all day but also do proper pre-trips (wear your legs rub against the tires and the ground)...

    What do you wear?

I'm 6'3" 275 LBS, i prefer khaki cargo shorts or casual golf style shorts in the warm weather. I wouldn't be caught dead in a pair of sweats or sweat shorts just because i prefer to look professional and my company also requires professional dress ie.... button up company shirts. Winter I wear loose fitting jeans and nothing else, never any problems for me with jeans.

Never had an issue with blue jeans. I'm pretty casual, jeans, and a carhartt t-shirt.
I have worn uniforms that were comfortable. They were pretty tough twill material cargo pants.

My husband is your size and he wears shorts to drive in. He did switch from his jeans shorts to more comfortable cotton shorts. He found that the jeans shorts weren't comfortable on a full drive day. His shorts aren't baggy, and they fall above the knee, maybe a little shorter than a lot of men wear. He makes sure that he wears clean and decent looking clothing when he picks up/delivers, but when it is just driving, he is wearing the older/stained/ripped ones; because out there they do wind up in that category quickly.

I wear jeans or Dickie work pants when I have to go to either a customer or terminal. The work pants bunch up less than jeans. I always get the looser fitting double knee style. Any dark colored Kaki/Docker style pants will work. Just find something that works for you and buy enough to stock the truck. I find after driving for a year I have 2 sets of clothes one for the truck and one for home.

Khaki work pants/shorts. The cut is loose enough for air flow and the material (tan) stays cooler than dark colors.

Jeans tend to chafe and retain heat more than the khakis.

I am partial to work uniforms. Tax deductible. Jeans on the other hand usually are not as they are suitable for every day wear.

Sweats just make the wearer look like he/she is ready for the gym. Not suitable or appropriate for work imo anyway.

Lose fit jeans and t shirts, is what I like to wear. Plain t shirts, no writing or pictures on them.

Cotton PJ's while driving. Elastic band.

You can always change when you stop, before you get out. I do it 2 - 4 times a day.
