I watched 2 Pilot fuel trucks pull into the Loves in Brigham City, Utah and fill their tanks.
I'm still scratching my head over that one.

Seems to be a good one.. My situation is somehow similar... A very good small company (23 trucks since when I left for my trip to Brasil last August).... Used to average 12 and sometimes 14 thousand miles a month... Was awarded driver with most miles safely driven in 2017 and 2018 in my company... But the truck is governed at 65 mph...:biggrin_1square1: So... it's not possible to make those miles and take "home time" every week... :biggrin_25512: However, I don't have a family or a home... So, I don't want any "home" anyway ... I run 48 states, rarely hear from my dispatchers... do my own route, fuel stops, this and that... run 48 states but the elog took away a lot of "freedom" ... and since I drive a company truck, I don't have the freedom to take days off whenever I want for whatever time I want... :biggrin_25512:
My company allows 20 miles of PC (personal conveyance) per day, if I need.. sometimes I would like to be able to unhook and go places during my time off.... as I used to do with my previous company when I was on paper log many years ago... but that was before elogs...
I confess though that I like to go go go once I get a load.. don't like to sit and wait for loads... so, they keep me running.. I recognize I have made my own bed this way... Maybe I would have to either have my own truck or change "career" to get more freedom...

When I was in orientation at Swift they made an exception. They allowed a guy with a body temp of 87 degrees into the program.

    Just sayin'...

Your only 2 mph slower than me... Governed at 67 mph. And we have unlimited pc miles available to us provided we dont abuse that privilege. But I do use PC quite often as most of our loads can use the 150 air mile Ag. Exemption to get loaded. And I do use pc occasionally to go out to a nice sit down restaraunt for a good meal. But I dont get that opportunity often, as 99% of the time I have a load waiting for me before I even get unloaded. As of right now I'm sitting at almost exactly 110k miles for this calander year... If I keep it up at this pace I will get about 150k before years end.

Amen to that! I was an equipement operator all my life , the only piece of equipment i hadnt operated was an 18 wheeler, to say that i am now addicted to the road would be an understatement. Even the bad days out here on the road are still better than being stuck at home everyday IMO. Aint no feelin like burnin down some cross country highway

Not all local work is created equal. Seem like you have a good group there.

We got a solid lil group of drivers for the most part, good company to work for. We will take a change in a new guy and do train too, that's what gets me...I don't see how people aren't jumping on it. $21/hr no experience.... while not great pay it's twice what megas pay and you spend half the hours in the truck yet nobody applies.

G13Tomcat, InTooDeep and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

Local or OTR have a mind set if you will.
They are not the same, sure it’s a truck, but the work is very different. If your running solo, long haul is a very solitary environment. Your interaction with people is limited to non-drive time. Yes you can talk on the phone with people, but it’s not the same as in person.
By the way, if you don’t have a headset, get one, your going to want it. Hands free is the only way to go.
Don’t go for a cheap one, you can get a good one for a reasonable price.

Cost of living is cheap and there is no state tax.
