Simple fact if something happened in front of the Ford and he hit his brakes no amount of training would have prevented a very bad wreck and very likely a fatality. Again, basic physics. A radar controlled breaking system likely would not react in time, much less a human.
Should the Ford have gotten over? Yes, but that doesn't absolve the trooper of his disregard of the safety of others on the road. -
