In winter if going north, we are allowed 42000 on the drives, up from 38,000 summer weights, we do have to take that 4000 off the trailer, but that is perfect.
We also run a lot of 4 and 5 axle trailers with one or two belly lift axles, which we can lift and put 55,000 or so on the drives, which while not legal, sure works good.

Around here the scales aren't even open in snow srorms, and even if they were I'll do anything and everything, legal or not, to stay up on the road and out of the woods. Legal axle weights is way down on the list when running steep gnarly roads at 2:00 am in the winter. ..............But a good, NEW winter tire (not all weather, lol) is at the top of the list!

Sometimes some knuckle head loads your wagon wrong, and the best you can do is just be legal. That’s happened to me a lot. If possible, I like to have the weights nearly equal, say, within 1000lbs, and if ones heavier I’d rather it be the drives. Keep in mind too, that trailer brakes work better when there’s weight on them thar axles! LOL

Sometimes it depends on your routing too. The situation I mentioned had five chemical totes as stop #2.

Aside from the reasons for having more weight up front in slippery conditions I always prefer to have the tandems as far back as possible. Less sway and tail swing.

Yes. I’ve been in similar situations.
