I knew someone who did this. Well similar...He worked for a towing company I did, he'd work 6 to 8 months out of the year then go visit family in Honduras for the winter. He'd live like a king then come back an do it all over again. From what he would say, cost of living was so low down there, so he could make his dollar go further.

I know others who do this also, but not related to trucking in anyway. They travel in rvs, an work during the spring an summer an take off in the winter an spend time FL, AZ, TX, etc.

Here on the sandbar it used to be...you'd work your ### off from late march, early April til Oct. Then you'd be off work til the following season.

Be safe...regardless of the weather, an do what works for you.

Sirscrapntruckalot - Yes, I like red meat. If that offends you...go munch on a carrot. :)

Most people don't know how to chain cause good 85% of America is flat, if I don't know how to chain I simply don't go to where I might get into trouble, why risk to make extra fees hundred dollars, when you can ez loose few thousand?

No, No, I would much rather work all winter and take summers off, for several reasons.
Most of all is the weather is nice in the summer and you can do a lot of things you can't do in the winter. Why would I want to take off and stay indoors. lol

What is all this bit about chaining, I have had to chain the last two trips, both going and coming, this trip it finally cooled off enough I barefooted both ways.

Winter is the nicest season of the year, pretty much the only time I can drive around with the top down, beaches aren't nearly as crowded, everyone goes home so traffic is better.

LOL. I can understand that where you are, just the opposite hear, plus winter is by far the best trucking here, if a guy is running freight.
If a guy is hauling gravel he has to work summers here, and a lot of them guys take winters off. In fact quite a few actually live down south and come up here just for the gravel season, then go back home and kick it for the winter.

Chains?! Done it in Oregon. Chains on, up and over the mountain, chains off. Go 5 miles, chains on...... lather, rinse, repeat.
    Naaahhh I'll pass.
