so recently i had an issue where my tires were the limiting factor on a run. since then i have been looking at RGNs and Double drops, and it seems most of the 22.5s are ran with 255/70s on them. however im finding none that are rated higher than my Goodyear Endurance RSAs are at 5070lbs in dual configuration.
i have to be missing somiething here, cause i see RGNs pulling massive freight that appears well beyond 40k(tire rating) on a tandem..

This is because you need to run 16 ply tires

I know what he was looking at. He was just mistaken about the tire size guys are typically running on RGNs.

And if you are telling me what I should pull to make a a living - maybe you should worry about you. I a have reasonably good handle on equipment requirements in my segment

He “offered” me a piece of unsolicited advise that is totally irrelevant assuming I pull certain equipment and don’t understand the complexities of tire rating and rates for RGN

I offered the OP the answer to the question he was asking....

And lastly - who are you the party police ?

One of 3 possible answers here:

    1. They might look like 255/70R22.5 from a distance but are actually 275/70R22.5 and have a load rating of 6395 each.

    2. The machine might look big but weigh less than you think. Thus they are legal weight.

    3. They are running above the load rating of their tires because they aren't smart enough to buy the right tires.

You can easily run 275 instead of 255. The tire will be about 3/4" wider and 1/2" larger diameter. If you do decide to upgrade make sure the wheels, axles, and suspension are rated to match the heavier rated tires.

@Rontonio he was talking to me about not moving to an RGN at the moment.
The RGNs I'm referring to are in fact 255/70

I'm quite aware 275/70 goes up to J rating, but I have a brand new set of 255s so I cant justify another set.

@Razororange I'm going off ones I have laid eyes on personally and those listed for sale. I agree with people overloading. I'm sure most troopers/DOT arent checking, but I'm too scared of getting put OOS to risk it.
I've seen tandem axle landolls with 50k dozers on 17.5s. Crazy.
