Yes they do. But if you can't 2 go 2 Canada (like myself), Stevens don't fuss about it. They have enough drivers who can.

I was going to say the same thing StankO. But you must be upfront with Stevens from application, to interview, to hiring about why you can not go into Canada. I have a passport, and had one before I went to Stevens. I also can not enter Canada.
They are easy to get, and cost less than A FAST card, a TWIC Card, or A HAZMAT endorsement. -
Consider it a blessing you can't go into Canada.
-
Actually its not bad at all going INTO canada. They are really nice up there especially going to ontario. Coming back in our US customs treats you like criminals. They are rude and stuff. Also now that they got that speed regulator bill passed you'd have to get ur truck governed at 65 or less
-
Exactly, why would anyone want to deal with that crap. Plus the horror coupes along the 401 and Toronto traffic during rush hours. It's just not worth it. -
We all need to remember this...
This can mean OUR license, NOT the company's. Anything bad that happens, ie. overweight tickets, accidents, non-compliance with the laws and/or DOT regulations goes on US, the drivers. My opinion is, if anything is going to go on my license as an offense then I am NOT doing it! Why would anyone allow someone else to dictate what goes their records, both criminally and civilly? I know it seems a bit ridiculous but my question is, where in the blue blazes did common sense go anyway???
I had a company recently try to force me into hauling an overweight load for them. They threatened to fire me once I got back to the terminal for NOT following what they told me. I then turned around and told the jerk to fly out, drive the truck for me, get busted for me and I would still have some of that junk off loaded so I wouldn't be overweight and he'd be the one in jail for me. He didn't much like that. I still got fired but at least my Motor Vehicle Report *and* criminal records are still clean. Not to mention that I have already submitted my rebuttal on my DAC.
My records are clean, straight and any company that is worthwhile will still hire me because my records *are* clean.
Please don't make the same mistake again. I'll be praying for you and your ability to be hired.
Don't forget this too:
Absolute power corrupts absolutely. That's what's wrong with Stevens. -
Another tidbit of information...
I had a dear friend who drove for Stevens. He was killed last year in a truck wreck in Arizona. He did his best to keep the accident to a minimum...he didn't involve any 4-wheelers. He was the only one who died in the accident. It was purely coincidence that I drove by his accident shortly after it happened. Police and EMS were already on the scene.
I diverge...
Anyway, I was able to stay in touch with his family. The company ordered an autopsy to be done in Arizona. The company also refused to release his body until they were satisfied that he wasn't on any drugs. I don't blame them for that. But, his "life insurance" with Stevens wasn't any good. His family ended up having to pay for his body to be returned to North Carolina. And Stevens did NOT feel any sort of compulsion to ***help*** his family with any of the expenses whatsoever.
I got some other friends, who are also drivers, to donate what we could to help cover the cost of his transport and his funeral because his freaking life insurance he bought through Stevens was worthless!
So, yeah, that company has gone the way Schneider National and so many other previously good companies have gone. Just like the dodo bird. -
NC special you are so mistaken with your information. An overweight ticket does not go on you the driver, when you the driver have it in writing that stevens will pay the overweight tickets to keep the load moving. I know this as fact from personal experience. As far as the insurance issue you bring up, that is between the insured, and the insurance company, not Stevens. And all insurance companies today look for ways to not pay legitimate claims. That is what lawyers are for.
Due to your attitude, and misinformation, many companies will not hire you, as the rebuttal first show you have an attitude problem.
Why should Stevens help pay to get his body back to North Carolina, that is between the family and the insurance company, not Stevens. -
I don't really know about all that overweight business because I never hauled overweight load. Don't get me wrong. Shippers put too much weight on me constantly. Last time # Kraft in Champaign, IL. As soon as I find I'm overweight, I send axle weight over QC and Stevens always send me back. Last time it took seven hours 4 Kraft 2 take 1 pallet off. The appointment had to b rescheduled and I had to be repowred but no1 EVER told me 2 run with overweight ld. I know sometimes it happens that you have to run with it but the customer is supposed 2 pay 4 the ticket.
I never experienced that but I was told that that can b expected especially with Tropicana.
Btw 38 Spec:
1. I don't think you'd go 2 jail 4 overweight ld.
2. Stevens has absolutely worthless insurances eighter on the company or lease side. If any1 signs 4 any of those, he must've been really desperate or didn't read the information pamphlets. They are outrageously expensive and they pay 4 siht. You can get better insurance from a russian mafia.
But that has very little to do with Stevens really. Stevens merely gives you the pamphlets. Sure, they could do a better job finding a better insurance company to offer though. But so can you.
3. I'm not surprised that Stevens didn't help with the funeral. Although it would b decent thing 2 do, business is about making money and not about decency and I can see their reasons. I'd really like 2 know which company (not only trucking) would actually do share the funeral expenses especially if the accident was't their fault (mechanical issues). And especially in these bad times. They are dealing with hundreds of accidents every month. If they'd behave decently, they'd be out of business before it even really started. I'm not saying that it's right. I'm saying that it's necessary 4 their survival. So they do what law dictates them to do and nothing more. I'm fine with it. -
Remember no one cares about you. If you die, they slap another ### in the seat and move on.
Owner's Operator Thanks this.
