Hi all. Before I get bashed about USA Truck, let me give my situation. I was recently terminated from my old job (in the Law-Enforcement industry)...........(NOOOOO, not DOT, either) ANNNNNYWAY, I pretty much got caught up in small-town politics and was terminated. I'm currently drawing unemployment. I'm 23 y/o, single, no kids. My mother actually lives in my house with me (shouldn't that be the other way around?), so I wouldn't have to worry about paying for an empty house that I sleep in 4 nights a month. So I bascially have no chains bounding me to home.
Long story short, I ran across Driver Solutions and USA Truck and applied just to see what happened. As it had it, I spoke with a recruiter w/ Driver Solutions back-and-forth over the past couple weeks and am scheduled to attend C1 in Indianapolis on July 13th.
I've driven a tractor-trailer before, only for like 15 miles or something (on a closed-circuit course directed by a professional driverha ha), but I actually enjoyed it. I'm sure the novelty of the driving-part will wear off, though. I've been around tractor-trailers and dump-trucks for pretty much all my life. All I can do at this point is to do my best and see what happens.
Now for the part about bashing me. I know USA Truck has somewhat of a bad reputation, but if you look all over the internet, so does every other trucking company. I've spent hours and hours researching trucking and USA Truck, along with other companies. I also understand the current freight demand and economy. If you go through most of the trucking companies on RipOffReports, you'll find that USA Truck is actually among the ones w/ fewer "ripoffs". As for the recruiter, I've spoken w/ different drivers with USA to confirm what the recruiter was telling me. In addition, the drivers I spoke to are fairly happy w/ USA. Like I said, all I can do is give it my all, do my job, and see where it takes me. If I fall on my #$$, then atleast I'll know for sure it didn't work out (and of course pay the $$$ to C1).
I honestly believe I would enjoy trucking. But, I'll never know if I don't take this chance. I'll keep everyone posted on my status.
Attending C1 Driver Solutions, Then Off to USA Truck

Yeah, you can find a lot of negative comments about every company. I'm sure a lot of people have had bad experiences, but there are always those who are having a successful time with the company they are with. I'm not wanting to single out any particular company, because they all have their fans, and their enemies.
But, good luck to you sir. Hope all goes well. -
C1 in Indianapolis run man run
i was there just 3 weeks ago the only person worth asking for help is kevn
the place they have you staying at is a hell hole rooms are dirty bed bugs and hookers live there if they can send you to another c1 do it the trucks are not in the best of shape -
I remember back when JB Hunt had the most trucks on the road, all the joke were about JB Hunt. (did you hear about the JB hunt driver that shot two other truckers in the news? He heard them badmouthing JB Hunt so he went to his truck and got his gin and shot two of them. He would have got the third but he ran out of water.)
Then came Schneider. (What do you call all those orange traffic cones on the road? Schneider droppings.)
Then came Swift. (Swift stands for; Sure Wish I Fisnished Training or Slow Wagon In Fast Traffic or Sure Wish I Had A Faster Truck) I just recently heard some #### try to tell me Swift sucked because they have the most traffic incidents every year. I was like, duh, they have the most trucks on the road every year.
There's a lot to be said with going with a major carrier, at least to start out. -
Hi, I am very familiar with your location, as I was employed by Bucyrus in Pearisburg. I live in Princeton and getting ready to attend PIA truck school in Charlestown. It is being paid for by WIA. USA truck has a terminal in Roanoke but, was wondering why you decided to go all the way to Indy for Training. It seems there would be closer options.

Yeah I know Bucyrus. I actually live in Rich Creek, but I put Pearisburg for my location as it is more well-known. Well, Driver Solutions has various schools (I think like 6 or so) throughout the U.S. The closest one to me would be Indianapolis. They also act as kind of a job placement service, in which I was picked up by USA Truck. Basically, I'll go to training for three weeks in Indy, off for about a week, then on a USA Truck w/ a trainer for 4 weeks or so, THEN to orientation.

I have been looking into going to C1 in Indy for my CDL training. The training has been lined up for me with a start date of 20 July. I am an Iraqi War Vet, single, no dependents. Thought a year of driving to experience the industry was worth the chance. Reading forums and blogs trying to get a feel for this business. Not sure what I will do, Looking into CDL training by Prime. I have heard bad about both companies. Some good comments also. It seems the business is what you make of it, however a good company and dispatcher seems to be very important.

I agree Bearcat. It all depends on your attitude, ethics, etc. I guess I'll still be there when you get there on the 20th.

dont let people discourage you from going to C1 in indy....the people who complain about how bad it sucks are the same people who didnt show up to class or didnt try very hard and expected to just be handed a CDL
i just finished there last week and i thought it was well worth my money....my driving instructor was don but i also worked with DC when don was sick
you will know who DC is....short guy always wears sunglasses, ex army drill instructor....if you do something wrong he lets you know right away and you dont want to make the mistake again....he is a very good instructor and the people who complain about him need to grow thicker skin
if you get an old black man named jackie you are screwed, atleast thats what everybody said...dgarrett0008 Thanks this. -
lfguard10 if your drawing unemployment why would you pay for or sign a contract with a company? I am currently drawing unemployment and the state is paying 100% of the fees and tuition for C1 Indianapolis. Might want to check into that. Then if things don't work out then you can walk away at any time not owing anything.
