The terminal manager I spoke to today told me that they're starting to try and reduce deadhead miles by concentrating more on reloads for the out and backs. So you may be doing a one day layover so you can come back loaded instead of empty and get the higher rate, as well as layover pay.

 

Do they require new drivers to provide 10 years work experience?

 

It's either 8 or 10

 

from all the applications I put in 3 years ago, mostly ALL of them required 10 years. I think 10 years is the minimum. I haven't filled out an application where you didn't show 10 years of employment unless....well unless you are between 21 and 26(since most people don't 'technically' work when they are 16, since driving laws to get a license has changed alot since I got mine at 16(1992)).

 

I can see this, as I have been sitting(not much) waiting on something, usually a day. Although there was one time in Markham I sat for a day, then they deadheaded me home(high point) because I had a home date in and didn't have anything to get me home by then.

 

Can i float the gears during my road test/interview or is that a disqualification?

 

Pretty good chance you'll be doing the road test in an auto since they're transitioning the fleet to that. But if not, there's no harm in asking your tester.

 

You are required to clutch all the gears.
Atleast that's how the Illinois dmv is.
I still floated all my shifts and pretended to double clutch
If you have a choice, choose a manual for your road test, you dont want an automatic only on your license
