O I miss understood you my apologies I was thinking mount not stud.
That’s a nice one I will see if I can swing by a pilot tonight and get one. I’m guessing that’s much stronger than my cheapo. -
Big time..The one you have now is junk..Not sayin wilson is best but it is much better....If you get near a cb shop grab a roll of coax seal....seal up all your connection points..
trucking for family Thanks this. -
I think a Francis or a fire stick will perform better.trucking for family Thanks this.

My exa t point but im not gonna debate his findings

I am as surprised as anybody to be honest that the Wilson does so good but I may end up leaving the firestick I’m going to give each of them a week and see which I like the best.
-
I’m not disregarding your opinions at all. I am supposed to have the radio back today so for all I know my tuned up radio will be terrible with the Wilson and will be great with the firestick.
I’m going to give them both a fair shake on the 29 classic after it’s back in my truck. I suspect the Wilson will end up on my pickup truck after it’s sll said and done. -
Without someone goin all techy on me the ant set up doesnt define the radios workings..
On the other hand an ant set up can make or break a radio.
You can have a top of the line radio and the worlds best tuner do all his tricks but if its attached to cheap coax with poorly attached ends, crap stud, poorly set up ant mount and crap ant ,its still sound like crap....
Take a bone stock el cheapo $29.95 wallmart radio bought from wallmarts kids toy section with a top of the line set up (antenna, coax ect)will likely blow away the good radio..
Honestly if you ask me,behind the cab is not a better idea, still works and such but whats better is atleast a top load ant back there..
Tall as you can get it helps to..
I know skip doesnt really count when it comes to radios range an all but i live in novascotia canada and have picked up europe at times....On the other hand depending on conditions i cant do more than a few miles..Buildings,major mountains, typical city electronics and atmospheric conditions all affect range..
I have talked to rabbi at about 35-40 mi and rabbi has reached 74 mi will almost same set up to another driver...
The guys radio/ant set up on the rec end can make a diff to...
So what ever testing you do,keep all conditions exactly the same...Use a quiet ch with same car/ truck rec on other end..Do nothing to enhance one ant over the other...
Now im partial to skip shooter ant myself..They come in different colors and are very easy to tune with great results...
I had a 7ft on my cascadia but now i have a 102"whip on a 10" shaft..
Perso ally its a bit whippiny so ill likely go back to my 7footer..trucking for family Thanks this. -
My testing is basically on the job the tech stuff is a bit much for me although I do understand most of it. I find that the antenna on the back is far better than the window however I left the mirror mount to attach the Wilson with the 29 hooked up now that its back to see. compared to rear.
The fire stick is defiantly far better on the back that's been proven but the Wilson may very well be better on the mirror mount only one way for me to know. Try it both spots again.
I have a co-worker that I run with on a regular basis and we chatter the whole way that's my test and how I know that tank blocks signal in a turn as well as looses it much faster on the mirror than the back.
I know not very scientific at all. More trial and error
I do not think the radio will fix the issues I did that mainly because I can and we get far apart at times depending on the traffic conditions and signal gets bad. Really though I just like the idea of a tuned up radio Ive had this Cobra a very long time and decided to get it rockin and keep it. I was eyeballing a few 10 meter radios but there's no need for that. Its like an old tool you can't let go of really. Ive had it so long id feel wrong without it in my truck. -
Possible that on your door mount.you do not have the gnd strap going from door side of door hinge to cab side of door hinge..
Doesnt matter the ant you use,if tank blocks signal from one it will on the other but might be less on a top load vs a base load ant..
Re gnd straps..Use as short as needed and wide as possible..Be sure to clean any paint/corrosion/thread locker off bolt threads and inside bolt hole..
I had a 5ft firestick on the back of my last cascadia but i had to lean it backwards so that i didnt hit overpasses through maine/ct/ny...Tried it also with a 10k but range suffered till i went back to mirror arm and went with 7ft skip shooter..trucking for family Thanks this.
