2006 Cummin isx good or bad

I don't mind the Cummins, but some won't like it. They drive different. Historically, Cummins has been cheaper to work on but don't know if that holds true today. In my experience, the Cat will use a little more fuel. But they all do if you don't drive right.

 

Well one thing about cummins is the cams... is this a cm870? Before you buy it get those cams checked..

 

Bad cams. Turbos don't last. Front engine plate warps causing oil leak. Isx isn't one of the better engines. Might be improved on newer years. But the older years. if you get one. They like mobile delvac or delo 400 the best.

2010 or newer not sure on.

 

My old man had an '06 briefly. Only had about 1800 hours on it but I do recall it needed a turbo and an egr valve in that time. Said it danced circles around his C15 he had before though.

 

Had an egr cooler go out on 07 engine. Only egr problem I had with 3 ISX'S I drove in 4 years. I got lucky.

 

I have an 06 isx in my 07 w900 it has 1.4 million on it but was inframed at 1.15 million no problems with the way it pulls or with fuel mileage 6.2 average. Have owned it 2 years and the only problem with it was egr after permanently taking care of that I have not had any more problems.

 

I have a 06 Cummins isx with a rebuild with 1.1 million miles have had for 2 months so far so good.

 

I have an 06 with 1.3 million in it. It also is in an 07 379.
Being that is a 500 it does not seem to be as prone to the Cam issues as the larger hp motors.
