Well I just talked to a guy on M57 about 14 miles from my house with the Wilson on back it was faint but very doable. Tried the firestick out and can still go about 7 miles.

I blew past a guy at the dairy about 4 blocks from my house had to turn the power half way down to talk to him

I’ll do the mirror mount test again tomorrow I’m out of time today but that’s defiantly good results. The antenna is about 12’9” to the top from the ground.

I would look for a different stud mount where you screw on the coax connector. look inside the coax connector and you will see a pair of "teeth" inside, it isn't completely flat inside.

But the stud you screw the coax onto is flat, there are no groves for the teeth to fit into, it's just flat. That will cause you issues over time as it's not fully "seated". You really only want to screw on the coax finger tight, and over time, it will loosen up as you only have two small points of contact from the two teeth on the coax connector. You will always need to keep checking on it to make sure it's still tight and now wearing loose from vibration.

It's one of my pet peves.... some places claim "quality" but yet take a crazy shortcut like that.

I would find a better stud or switch to a "Lug Mount" style.

    Good luck.

I suggested the wilson stud..Forgot about the 2 teeth on the coax end..On my set up i just cut two spaces so that coax and stud mated..Forgot to mention that point..tks skellr for that tidbit of info..

Well last night I ran to defiance Ohio and picked up signals from far off then this morning heading buck up on US27 MI through Hudson, Jackson, Lansing and St Johns I was getting tons of signals from who knows where. More than I ever have. I was on 27 north of Lansing getting I96 chatter two guys talking about what exit they wanted by Mason and then I heard chatter coming from North of M21 but I could only faintly make out one voice.

There was also a lot of skip picked up and I mean A LOT this morning little bits of skip here and there.

Tonight I’m gonna run the Firestick and compare to the Wilson. I tried the window mount last night and still just doesn’t work as good when I turn ( not bad by any means but not as good ) so I went back to the back of the cab again.

Pilot/flyin j sell them.....Side note...Skellr reminded me that your coax has 2 lil teeth in the pl259 end...Take a small cutting blade and notch the stud end so that the pl259 coax end mates to ant stud perfectly, otherwise its not a good connection..
I took a hacksaw and just cut into mine to do 2 jobs..Offers a complete connection and as a lock of sorts so that coax will not spin as you tighten it..

Crap..Jumped out to do a pic of it for ya and forgot that i just put on a new stud and didnt notch mine..
Ill do it when home and take a quick snap if you need me to..
