Sounds to me like the OP has mechanical skills and could find work comparable to his current salary if trucking doesn’t work out. Look at Indeed and you’ll find companies looking for mechanics. So the real decision is can he live without those benefits, that’s what will be tough to replace not the wages.

Lol. He better list sitting in a truck stop just outside of Nowhere, USA on Labor Day weekend waiting for a load as a soul sucking moment. Maybe the beautiful sunset will help him forget about the smell of urine that surrounds him.

Last I looked. UPS had a sign on a 53 trailer off the 270 freeway in Commerce City. Hiring Drivers. Very serious money within 5 years.

Ok. Math time. Health insurance is running you 50 bucks. Maybe you’ll make an extra $500 per month in pay compared to your current job. Guess how much your insurance premium for crap coverage is gonna be in trucking?

A truck driver is always one mistake away from
    Being unemployed.
And doesn't even have to be the drivers fault.
    Stay where your at.
Find a hobby if your bored.

My job is pretty much recession proof, no layoffs due to slow season. It's pretty much impossible to get fired unless you do something really really stupid. The pay stays the same if your busy or if your slow.

You gotta do what's gonna make you happy first. If that's driving a truck, flipping burgers, turning tricks, whatever you gotta run with it. Like a few others have said look at the benefits costs and the pay very closely and make sure you will be able to maintain the lifestyle that you want to live. $x,xxx (insert whatever number you get offered) dollars a week will work for some guys but not others.
