Nothing wrong with what you're doing, nothing wrong with $500 a week either, I own the truck and that's all I pay myself.

I realize some need more than others to live on, and some areas have higher cost of living than others, but what I have never been able to figure out is why some people criticize others over how they live their lives. It's funny how that works.

You can make more at company xyz, but I'm happy with abc...well ya know you're just stupid then because there is more money over here. Last time I looked across the fence the grass in the neighbors field wasnt any greener than mine. And this spring it was under a lot more water than mine...something most don't think about

    I hear you.

I for one prefer or dream of a day coming when wages earned in trucking to be stable with the exception of those engaged as Companies under own Authority. These deserve to earn as much as the market will bear for their work.

It is not my intention to say this much money or that much, I reconsider that and decided that there are places around the USA where you cannot earn a good living. Earn a living yes. But not the kind in which you thrive and meet future goals and dreams.

Ultimately 500.00 a week in the 80's terms which is very good money, is diluted by inflation to where you need to almost make 1500.00 for the same work that week today 40 years later.

What is going to be when we are paying drivers say 3000.00 15 years from now each week and our currency continues to essentially get really bad. Trucks will be a million per tractor then.

For company drivers, if you are making enough to pay all your bills, set something extra aside and accumulate alot of it, then thats all that matters. You are literally making money. I envy the young ones because all they probably have is a car insurance bill plus a phone bill and that's it. Hardly anything else. They should understand that in a 10 year period with disclipine they can accumulate so much cash that they can do two things.

First pick a spot and build a home that will sustain them into old age anywhere they like in the USA plus a bit of land.

Second. Open up a possibility to found a trucking company and become a employer hiring people and put them to work.

I cannot think of anything better than that. If you can get them to save some of that 1000.00 or 1500.00 or whatever each week when young.

Money isn’t everything. I made more at my last job but it started to suck. I worked too much and was on call every day. Random start times and micromanaging.

I get paid more per hour now and work way less and get to enjoy the summer. With the exception of this fall push I’m working 60+ hours but that’s not regular.

You gotta be happy but you also have to make a living whether you need 200 a week or 2000 you gotta do your best to find something at least tolerable.
