One of the reasons I built mine in 1985 was to keep from paying fet. Bought it in 84. Shortly after that they changed, and decided to collect on them, and they came after me. I was able to prove mine was before the date, and they left me alone. There is a code in your vin# that will prove a truck is a glider, that's how they tracked me down.

The Kenworth gliders I’ve been around and driven had “GL” in the vin. If the cost of building a glider is less than 75% of a comparable spec new truck then you don’t have to pay FET. Fitzgerald owes $83 million currently for non-collected FET, and I wouldn’t doubt that the IRS is looking at all the other builders now too.

Cat diagnostic software like what the cat dealers use. I doubt your mechanic would burn the 7cz programming to a CD for me shops don't like giving that out

You won’t get an argument from me about their junk engines, but why do you think it is a bad thing to “only be in it for the money”? Why else would they build gliders?
Why does anybody go into any business? For the money.
