just a question for drivers, honest answer ok?
We were going down the highway today and there was a truck driver swerving all over the road, come to find out he was reading a map and wasnt even paying attention to the road, what im looking for is input on this, how many of you do this?Wouldnt it be easier to pull into a rest stop or some type of area then to risk causing a wreck or killing someone?I understand sometimes its hard to pull over somewheres but now a days everyone pretty much has GPS and such and I just cant see someone getting killed because of this...Any input on this would be great.
question for all drivers?

Truckers are human too and multi-task often but not quite as bad as the four wheelers yappin on the cell phone while eating and putting on makeup etc. I'm guilty of busting out the pocket sized truck stop guide to see where a truck stop is nearby and occasionally talk on the cell phone but I'd never bust out a big ole' map and try to find a route while rolling lol.
Four wheelers are much worse than truckers when it comes to doing everything you're not supposed to do while driving I promise you, I see it everyday. -
I see that alot with cars more so then trucks, thank you for your input...

If he can't read a map and drive at the same time he's not a driver he's a steering wheel holder.
Chain Drive Thanks this. -
If I got lost,I always pull over to a safe place to go over the map. That driver should study the map where he was going before he took off unless he miss an exit that what may of happen but he should of pull over.

I just bought a WorldNav G P S so i would not need to pull a map out while driving, but i see a lot of drivers doing it and can't keep the truck in the lane. If anyone needs a good truck G P S the WorldNav is great, but not cheap $600.00 worth every penney.

People are people, doesn't matter what they drive. It's difficult to see what a truck driver is doing, because the truck sits so high you can't really see all of him/her.
However, most truck drivers can see in most other vehicles. We see people trying to read books, have laptop computers in their lap, drive with both feet on the dash, etc, etc, etc...
Thing of it is, whatever any driver is doing that distracts him/her from keeping the attention focused on the road ahead of them is just plain wrong.
It's up to every driver of every type of vehicle to drive safe.tiffanyav28, Wiseguywireless and dieselbear Thank this. -
Well; how are you keeping your eyes on the road ahead of you if you see people reading books, laptops, driving with feet on the dash and the many other things you did not mention that people in 4 wheelers do?

thank you for all your input, you all have some very good points...Yes Ive noticed most drivers now do have GPS and we saw this really good one in a pilot truck stop for $599,it does everything, really awesome...Keep the good points coming guys, doing great.

Worldnav is a crappy unit, possibly the worst one out. They also just dropped their price to $499 to match the Garmin 465t, which is the best one out in my opinion.
I can read a map without swerving, even the great big atlas that covers the whole wheel. I still wait until there's no traffic near me to glance at it just in case. I don't need to get it out much anymore though.
