I was charged with DUI but plead to "failure to exercies due care".......so there is no DUI conviction on my records....

Is this a big problem if I'm considering going to truck driving school?

"Due Care" is the same thing as a "Careless Driving" ticket: 6 Points.
    Yep..........BIG problem.

I'd say you have a big problem period. Cops don't make up drunk driving charges they can't prove, therefore you were driving drunk. Your biggest problem is not finding a job, it's learning that you need to admit your mistakes, own up to your responsibilities and deal with the consequences of your actions properly.

Anyone who drinks, gets behind the wheel is bad enough. One who gets caught and then lies and makes pleas to try to weasel out of taking the consequences for one's actions has a major problem. In your case it's one that could have gotten you or some other person killed. I'm assuming you were in your car and YOU want to drive 80 tons of truck?

You either have a drinking problem, a morals problem or both. In either case, to hell with the job ... you need some help before you kill someone.

Let me first say I am not and I do not condone drinking and driving especially drunk. But how is him trying to get his dui reduced to a lesser charge make him any different than someone who fights a speeding ticket to get it lowered? Hell anybody that knows anything about trucking will tell you to fight any ticket you get. It's just smart you might win and save your career. People make mistakes, my dad got a dui after having 2 beers at dinner several years ago.

can't get a dui if you don't meet the legal defenition which is point 08. they can charge you with drugs though. but if you test comes back clean and its time to go to court. nothing the judge can do but dismiss the case. the pain in the arse of the deal was getting the #### thing expunged from my criminal record. prosecuting attorney said i was doing the right thing. i told him i wouldn't be here doing the right thing if his cop didn't have a hard on for arresting someone just for pulling out of the bar parking lot at 11 at night on a weekday. had one beer and without any due respect to the fact that i had a commercial license. charged me with drugs and cost me my job. 90 days i had to wait to look for employment again.

I'm not saying people don't make mistakes. But these kinds of mistakes are deadly, not only to the driver who's making the mistake but to innocent people. We're talking KILLING or seriously injuring people here. This is not some tiny mistake. I haven't had a speeding ticket or any other kind for that matter in probably 30 years. I'm not saying I'm perfect, definitely not. However, the way I look at it, if I have made a mistake and I'm speeding then give me a ticket. I'll pay it and be on my way and hopefully will learn to watch my speed better. Apparently so far I've been successful because I did get a speeding ticket that long ago. It's called being responsible for my actions and admitting I did wrong. For me, there's no point in wasting people's time in court or anywhere else. I'm an adult, I screwed up. As an adult, it's my job and the right thing to do to, take the consequences and move on. We could clear a lot of crap out of our court system if people were responsible for their actions and didn't try to get out of everything they screw up. I don't see that this is hard to understand.

If you have to lie or plead down a ticket, then you have no business driving ... whether it be a car or 18 wheels. What's more important, someone's career or someone's life? Perhaps people that find themselves in this position that drive for a living should re-think their career choice.

    First post here.

Say a person was convicted in Fall of 1993 of DUI.
    That's almost 16 years ago.
This person hasn't touched a drop of alcohol since then.
Only ticket since Fall of 1993 was a speeding ticket in 2002. (33 in a 25)

Would that conviction preclude him from getting a CDL?
Even if said person could get a CDL, would anyone hire him?

I've done some searching and I can't find a cut and dry answer to this question.
I'm sure I just haven't looked in the right places or used the proper search terms...

Sorry but I have to call BS on this one....I have family members who are defence attorneys here in the state of Georgia. You DO NOT get the oppertunity to plea to a lesser charge when charged with a DUI...
