My feeling is the ATA is just out to help the big guys if you are a O/O or small trucking co. they would like to see you gone.
-
So what is the OOIDA's agenda here? Safety as well?
BS!!!! It's so their members can have logbook flexibility. -
It has nothing to do with logbook flexibility. It has to do with safety. Most ATA members have their trucks governed below the speed limit. Running under the limit is a big safety concern. There have been studies to prove that traffic accidents have increased in states that have split speed limits... Such as the state of Ohio...
Now lets go to the Southwest where the speed limit is 75 mph for all traffic... Those 60 mph trucks are nothing but a road hazard there & every where else! -
If the government can tell us at what speed to govern our trucks, where will it stop? More government involvement in PRIVATE business is NEVER the answer.
-
And your feeling is 100% correct...its all about making it hard on the "little guy". -
So, ATA wants to limit the speed of the trucks to 62 mph. I guess when all of these trucks are in the west where 60 made them a road hazard, they will not be a road hazard at 62.
It will be like having split speed limits everywhere. -
Exactly... Split speed limits are far from safe!!!
I've been driving long enough to know that most accidents that trucks are involved with ultimately somehow becomes the truck driver's fault. Someway, somehow... That is the way it goes.
So why should I carry the fault when the government mandates me to only drive 62 mph.... When the speed limits are 70 & 75 mph? Then some other motorist hits me & kills himself because I am in the path of their 80 mph vehicle going a pitiful 62 mph....
