Hello everyone!
My name is Jason, I'm currently working on a project to provide more transparent and reliable brokerage to truckers. My end-goal is to provide truckers with a 24/7 broker/dispatcher/assistant that will answer any questions or concerns such as; finding loads, planning rest stops/breaks effectively, and giving detailed information on the current load. All this while speaking in clean, native english, having unlimited patience and a personal relationship that means no need for a complicated phone-tree or supervisor.
So I am looking for some insight into what O/O drivers really desire out of their brokers and what is the industry currently lacking? Here are a few questions to start, but please don't feel limited to these:
1. What do you take into account when looking for loads?(price, deadhead, distance, type, lane... etc)
2. What problems cause you to have to call your broker/dispatcher while on the road?
3. Do you look for LTL/future freight and rest stops on the road? Or do you plan things out ahead and just focus on driving while on the road?
4. How do you feel about apps like Convoy vs more traditional brokers? Do you prefer calling or using an app?
5. What information or services do your current brokers fail to provide that you would like to have?
Thanks to everyone who takes their time to respond![]()

The industry lacks respect. I have drivers with 2 million accident free miles under their belt, very very good track record of on time deliveries but the brokers always treat them like children.
The industry lacks accountability by brokers. A lack of information about loads and a lack of paying a carrier for a load should have a regulation from the fmcsa to force disclosing where the load comes from, who is paying for it and the details of the load. When it is delivered or refused, the carrier should be paid for that work, not chasing money.86scotty, Dave_in_AZ and Coffey Thank this. -
Brokers. Almost as pointless at the 30 minute break.
jeff18 and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
If you truly want to give brokers a better image..
Inform the driver before he accepts the load of any pallet/lumper fees, average time in dock for the customers, and confirmed appointment times that actually exist ( not windows or fcfs )Dave_in_AZ and Coffey Thank this. -
I think the industry can do without the brokers. Shippers and recievers can pull out the old fashioned yellow pages and thump it onto a desk and whistle up trucks by phone.
Once I had CHR pester me on my personal cell which is not a number that is given out. I already have satellite on that #### thing. After that entire trip down the coast I finally pulled the battery and changed numbers. Left the old one sit. Every time the thing rang its time to stop. and several times a hour is not going to improve the situation but worsen it.Coffey Thanks this. -
They treat them like children because of all the thousands of other drivers who act like children. That problem can be solved by only dealing with the same brokers over and over. Then they will appreciate your drivers once that trust is built up.
