One thing to note. Upsf starts out on the low side for pay. But if you can tighten your belt for a few years you'll end up as one of the best payed guys in the industry.

If you need 80/yr to maintain your lifestyle in Florida you need about 95/yr up north. I make $10/hr less in Florida than I did in PA and live better now and I'm in Hillsborough county, one if the more expensive areas of Florida. My average at UPS over the years was about 110/yr in Philadelphia and while I did just fine you wouldn't have thought I made that much. Cost of living is super high and the taxes are ####ing outrageous in the north east.

We haven't been getting much news out here in the west on how the NE expansion is going, but they have stopped posting hiring events in the NE on their website, that would most likely indicate that they have filled most the positions up there, have no idea if systems positions are or were set up.

Maybe sometime next year, during summer. Whats attracting me up to NE is the salaries(lot higher than S.FL.), more house for your money, and best public schools in the country.

Public schools are a top priority when you have children at home.
When we relocated, first thing we did was look for the best schools followed by a home zoned for them.
Worked like a charm. No forced busing either.

The salary will be more than offset by taxes and cost of living, just be ready for that.

Better look again at the housing market. Not only is it one of the most expensive in the nation the tax burden is unreal!

If increasing your quality of life is a factor there are far better places in this country than the northeast.

More house for your money? No way. I got way less house up here than I had in Plantation, FL.

Also, don't be fleeced into thinking that the higher salary will give you a better quality of life up here or make things alot more affordable. It won't. Thinks like state income tax, paying sales tax on the full purchase of cell phones, annual vehicle inspections, ANNUAL VEHICLE EXCISE TAX quickly begin to eat into that additional income, along with high property tax, heating bills and home owner's insurance.

That annual excise tax part is in all caps because that is one of the most infuriating taxes in this state. I paid sales tax on my pickup truck. I paid registration fees on the vehicle. I paid an inspection fee on the vehicle. And, guess what, the pickup truck I paid $28k for was valued by an arbitrary formula at the state that I can't dispute at $37k, and therefore, my excise tax this year that I paid on it was an additional $975 in the form of a bill I received 3 weeks later, payable to my town. If I don't pay it, a flag is put on my driver's license that will prevent me from renewing my driver's license, renewing the registration when the time comes, and eventually a warrant against me. I probably wouldn't mind writing that check if the roads were pristine, and towns didn't have ridiculous budget crises, but that's not the case.

MA schools having that reputation as the best in the country comes at a cost, and is mostly stretched truth. The schools here are good, no doubt, but they are far from the best. They are likely the best in the country with regards to scores yielded from standardized testing because like many curriculum in public schools these days, they teach toward testing, not true critical thinking.

Brockton, MA arguably has some of the best public schools in the state. They have a massive budget, large population, etc. But, Brockton as Trump so eloquently used the term, is a complete and utter ****hole.

One thing I will say, is that the health care infrastructure in the state is decades above the rest of the country as far as quality of services rendered. But, it ain't cheap.

Politics in this state are one party rule that isn't changing anytime soon, and it wasn't too long ago that a ballot question finally made it to the polls to remove the AUTOMATIC FUEL TAX INCREASES that we used to have. Guess what, there is a movement again to try to put that tax back on the books. This is a state where government sponsors safe injection sites for junkies, yet vilifies lawful gun owners and people that think there are only two genders.

Think GOOD and HARD about moving to the Northeast.

Myself, I wouldn't be here if when my wife and I started having kids, my wife didn't pull the "I want to be close to my family" card that I couldn't dispute.

Also, back to the excise tax, I'll get another excise tax years to come on the vehicle. Next year it will likely be around $700.

I live less than 10min away from Plantation lol. Just outside of Fort Lauderdale.

Wow. I can imagine things are expensive just outside of Boston.

I was thinking just outside Worcester, MA. Saw openings around that area. Homes around that area seem affordable. 330K for a 3Bed/2Bath, 2000sqft, basement, garage, sitting on 1/2 acre or more. Almost impossible to find a house with all that in any decent neighborhood in Broward county. Do you happen to know anything about Worcester? Good? or a dump?

I grew up in Davie and bought my first home in Plantation, didn't leave the state until I was 25.

Worcester is by and large a dump as well, heavy industrial presence and crime. There are pockets which are still nice and neighborhoods maintained well by the inhabitants. Surrounding areas like Northborough aren't bad though.
