I recently started driving for a small company out of Alabama, this is new for me, I've always owned my own rigs. However, I have to say this is this best outfit I've ever driven for. The boss sees me as his daughter and let's me run the truck how I want to. He recently purchased a completely redone 93 Peterbilt 379. 3406 18 spd and the works for heavy hual, most of my trucking experience is platform including oversize. My question is he wants me on paper, i can still use an electronic "paper log" correct? I really hate filling out paper logs. I'm driving a much newer truck now that's on keep trucking, its not linked to the truck yet but it will be after December, I'm training my replacement for that truck soon. Couldn't I just use keep trucking as a "paper log" as the company could still see what I'm doing and it's the same thing. Anyway thanks yaw, I'm new to the forum and looking forward to responses.
New old truck.

Yes, you would be legal to use Keep Trucking log app after December in the 1993 truck. Keep in mind, some DOT officers want you to be able to print the non-ELD logs so you may want to carry a printer.
Now, that said, does he want you on paper so he can push you to "fudge" your log? Although not impossible on a log app it is much harder to cover the trail than simply tossing out a loose leaf page and starting over. I am not advocating for cheating on your logs, but you should find out his real reason for wanting you on paper before deciding to use an electronic log app. If it is simply because an ELD will not work with the 1993 truck, then he should have no problem with the app, if not he will have to tell you and you will have to decide what you want to do.
Me personally, I tried the Keep Trucking app and a few others and never did like any of them. I most work the office as safety and compliance consultant but still do drive when possible. I get to use paper because I am doing driveaway transport work and use my old loose leaf without hesitation. Love paper, not for cheating, I run 100% compliant, just much simpler than punching in data on my tablet or smartphone.ibcalm19, Coffey, jamespmack and 3 others Thank this. -
Yeah he doesn't want me fudging either, he just doesn trust anyone else driving that truck. And he let's me do what I need to do and run how I want. I run compliant also. No fudging lol. We run solar powered 90% of the time anyway. I just hating filling out paper logs lol. That's why I want an electronic version. We have printers in our trucks bc we print out oversize permits all the time.

I’ve been using the keep truckin app on my phone for a year now. I won’t go back to hand writing if I don’t have to. The gestapo can check the logs on my phone in the inspection mode, or I can email it to them. If they want them printed they are SOL. Carry several pages of paper logs in my binder just in case my phone breaks, or there’s a software problem. At my last inspection the DOT guy told me the app won’t be legal after December. Just smiled and said “ok” since I wasn’t going to argue with the moron who confused it with an AOBRD.

The nice part about an "Electronic" paper logbook is that most all "Form and Manner" Violations go away(as long as you put the correct information in there) and it transfers to the next day with the push of a button = time saver.D.Tibbitt and Heavyhualgirl Thank this. -
Personally, I don't want to hand my cell phone to the Authorities, so I run a tablet for my ELDD.Tibbitt, brian991219 and Bean Jr. Thank this. -
Another reminder for all that are running ELD's anytime you are stopped and asked to see your logs, ALWAYS switch to "Inspection Mode" or "Roadside Inspection Mode" it locks it out and only shows them what is required
