Wal Mart Transportation lay offs

I mean it had gotten to the point where a deal breaker for me was having to spend the night away from my house. I was going crazy out on the road.

Now that I've been at the house for 4 years, if I had to spend the night away, it would be okay so long as the company really took care of me financially.

 

They all do. Just want it at lower payroll, benefits, and without having to provide a pleasant orderly work environment.
It is the new way of management. Problem is, most of the ones they have in management do not have enough life experience to "manage" people. All large business are like this. It is the way of the world now.

 

this is the boat im in. im home 95% of nights, have excellent insurance, im represented by the IBT, and i work for an honestly great company.

i used to hate hitting a hotel or sleeper, but the quality of the job is more important to me than demanding certain rigid things.

you'll be home every night for us foods or sysco, but whats it matter if you got the #### beat out of you, and you have an hour drive one way? now you have 8 hours total to eat, shower, and rest.

ill take what I have now over most anything else. every other day is a 7 hour day for me. nothing like being done by 1030 am...

 

I couldn't imagine going anywhere else. At least at this point.

 

You can easily make $85k a year. I left 2 years ago and was making $99k/year. You get $42 for sleeping in your truck and it was $19 to drop and hook.

 

It's pretty nice making $38/hour when you finally reach full pay.

 

46 weeks. Lol

 

So you were hired as seasonal help and when the season was over and you were laid off, and you're pissed off because?

 

Well there's always that chance of getting hired off the street, so when it doesn't happen, it's only human nature to take it personally. Situations like that have everything to do with UPS and their needs moreso than how you did as a seasonal employee.

 

Even though I was seasonal help,some of the seasonal help was given the option of getting hired on full time permanently with benefits at UPS. I wasn’t given that option. And as I mentioned previously, even seasonal help had to pay union dues(deducted out of every paycheck). That’s money I’ll never get back. Remember this was when the economy was going down into recession so every paycheck counted regardless of which job I was working.
