There's a pavement Texas has been using on some of the highways that supposedly lasts longer but does not absorb water, it just sits on top.
My wife jack-knifed our truck on a stretch of us-183 with this pavement, the sheriff that came out said another semi jacknifed there the week before and showed us where his tires had cut through the grass. I had to go back up that stretch later that day to take trailer to repair shop and head to terminal. I saw a pickup truck go sideways, and I was rolling 40 - 45 mph in a 70 and my trailer was still getting squirrelly on me. Wasn't even that heavy of a rain. A couple months later another truck at our company jack-knifed at the same spot.
Needless to say we don't use that stretch of road anymore.
