We have a surplus. If you took every man woman and child and cashed out Arkansas budget from the last Legislative Term it would be around 1800 dollar per.
The problems begin when the Legislature come up against laws requiring that income to be balanced or surplus. It's like a pensioner who is handed 100 dollars for the whole month and told wish you well, good luck with that. Be eating cat food every few days... Maybe some of those Treats out of Casper. Such generosity.
(I wrote that is half teasing and half serious. We are supposed to be generous to those who have need of it but give them so little)
Anyway.
The highway dept here has worked pretty badly, but in several local towns they are busy paving. One called Beebe has a annual Budget of about 2 million give or take and I think they paid about 200,000 in paving so far. A million is set aside for pensions and the rest is pretty much burnt. If you cashed out the street dept it will cone to a few thousand dollars.
IF the State was truly committed to paving, most of the gravel would have disappeared by now along with the potholes. But it's being deferred.
This would be for about what? 14000 people in that part of the county? Searcy does better than that, with the support of Harding and a couple of other really rich entities.
US 67 is showing progress, but they are running late for the eventual conversion to I-57 status once everything from 1962 is replaced and sections raised above current flood elevation.D.Tibbitt, lovesthedrive and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
Have some people we know that are in the Gainesville area. Temps got down to 58 to 62 range at night. Nothing but complaining about how cold it was.Cattleman84, D.Tibbitt, lovesthedrive and 3 others Thank this.

Snow in Tuscon as far back as 1958. Team coming east, just left the triple T, laying in sleeper in T shirt.
Looked out windshield, Edgar had the wipers on, nice little blast had come down off the Davis Mountains
and sprinkled us all he way to Benson. Weird...LoSt_AgAiN, D.Tibbitt, lovesthedrive and 3 others Thank this. -

Never realized that dropping trailer was such an IQ test.
Dude drop the trailer blocking the exit. Unhooked and left his co-driver and split.
Seriously can’t stop laughing now.
