Ok guys,, thank you for the input. I knew I’d get some honest advice. I appreciate it. I’m going to look at a newer truck....I just was in love with the idea! Thanks again
FoolsErrand, Midwest Trucker and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
Detroit Diesel has good engine but emissions One Box system is not so good. The DOC filter are weld in to the box and can't be changed. So when they go bad is $12,000 for a new emissions box. Detroit has 2011-12 year engine with the DEF. They were using the air from the tractor to power the DEF pump. That was bad because water and oil would get in the air system and it was pumped right into the DEF system. So Detroit change the and now have and electric pump.
Cummins ISX had lots trouble with oil and soot inside engine and talking out cams. They had bad ceramic fuel pumps that would break and take out the engine. They been upgrading the engine over the years. That the problem but used engines. You might get the old bad design they had to fix. Cummins ISX was taking our cams for years at top side of engine from oil starvation it would seem was the problem that Cummins would never admit to
Don't get the Maxxfoce that the worse engine ever made.singlescrewshaker, stillwurkin, x1Heavy and 1 other person Thank this. -
Get a Peterbilt 579 with a Paccar. Ok now you guys can run me in the dirt. That's what i'd get though.

You’ll laugh, but I’m already looking a T680 with a Paccar. I love the Pete, but wife wants the higher roof in the T680. Essentially the same truck. Paccar 455 engine with 3.08 rears...I found one for 74k with 380k miles, nav, adaptive cruise and APU.
but, one guy advised, keep driving company til next year when freight decides what it’s going to do and wait out the holidays. Money is in the bank, going no where and I’ll just keep adding 1k per month. I only make 73k as a company driver, but it’s enough.
as for the post about buying the home...mine is paid for in California. This is a retirement career for me...I draw a small pension already, I just want more freedom to choose where I go and I want to be able to say “NO” to that POS shipper or co-signee that treats me like crap when I go there...Hammer166, Rideandrepair, randomname and 2 others Thank this. -

I wonder about a used truck spreadsheet with the numbers on it... ie: maintenance over time vs interest on a new truck? You could see where you were at over 5 years, based on how your truck purchase went. (different columns for being a complete lemon to a shiny diamond with nothing going wrong) Also you could throw on a column for warranty and see if it holds water.

Maxxforce = Maxshite? -
600k on the clock and a $32k rebuild.
What am I missing? -
$10k reserve. That won't go very far.
KB3MMX Thanks this.
