Honestly, that’s horse #### pay for ready mix. Even as a new guy... I mean it’s a job but 24 an hour max?
what’s agg industries pay out there?
Im not trying to rain on the readymix parade. It’s a cool job but with the cost of living out there I feel like the pay should be better. But yeah starting out you’re not getting top pay anywhere.

I made more hauling mud in a readymix than I ever did pulling tankers.
I make more driving a dump truck than I did in ready mix. Yeah I break out the low bed once in a while and pull a flatbed behind my quad a lot but most my work isn’t pulling a trailer.
Class b work doesn’t always pay less. Especially in construction.FlaSwampRat and Johnny59 Thank this. -
I would highly recommend construction work though.
it’s also kind to newcomers, a lot of guys come from teaching, OTR, office jobs etc.
It’s a whole new world from regular driving. Everyone is helpful for the most part and pretty cool. Even if you don’t find a great job in construction right away you eventually will just from talking and networking with people.
another place I’d look is DOT or working for a city.FlaSwampRat and Johnny59 Thank this. -
JB Hunt intermodal ... you will sleep in the truck a few nights a week but home 2 days a week and never further then about 300 miles away from the railyards of so cal , probably rarely more that 150 miles.

Yes driving in the construction trade was pretty cool. I did it in Phoenix for a while. Mostly dump trucks but some flat beds to haul equipment and what not. This was a few years back. Worked from about 5:30 am to about 2 or 3 in the afternoon Monday through Friday. Normal life type of stuff. The other drivers weren’t to swift , I finally found out that they weren’t drivers. They were construction workers that were told by the co. If you get your cdl we will give you a nice raise. So they just did the bare minimum to get there cdl. It showed , lots of minor fender benders they weren’t used to it. Funny riding with them , they would double clutch and go up and down using every gear in order. I would get the “could you back this up for me” often. But I was the same way with construction stuff it was pretty even I guess.Fold_Moiler and Johnny59 Thank this.

For the first time in two years. I went and bought Halloween candy yesterday.
This morning, got a call to do a run. Got back at 10PM.... DOH!
Now what to do with all the candy?
EDIT: Sorry.... thought I was on a different thread... Doh!Last edited: Nov 1, 2019

@Atlanta trucker yeah you’ll see that sometimes. But like you said it all balances out when they ask you to saw cut some pavement and it’s crooked as hell. Lol.

Hitting those pneumatic tankers with a mallet or otherwise isnt always the wisest thing to do. Plus it leaves those nasty little half moon black marks all over the trailer.
Johnny59 Thanks this. -
What do you suggest instead of the soft mallet? Is there a better way to get the material clinging to the sides of the tank to let loose?
-
Yes, make sure the trailers are in working order and use the vibrators. If you just want to hear the hollow noise to try judging where the product is, use your hand. As you get near empty, pressurize the tank and let the tank air push the product a couple times using line air ONLY to prevent a plug. The trailers will empty out.
Johnny59 Thanks this.
