    Hi guys,
What do you know about jobs where a driver works for months at a time and then takes a month or more off? I'm pretty sure @Chinatown has mentioned taking trips to Asia. Anyone else?

Companies want drivers that do that, to go through the whole hiring process again, every time they take that much time off.
The general consensus is to work for a staffing or temp agency so you can take as much time off as you want. You work for the staffing agency, not the trucking companies they assign you to.
Trillium Staffing is one of a couple dozen.

I worked for one called Contract Driver Services in Phoenix. It took awhile before i had much work, but overall it was good. Pay wasn't very good, but it fit what i was doing (college)

I did a spot of yard jockey work as a temp but it was not profitable nor did that facility last more than a few years, it's quietly rusting in place having been closed and sealed in three rings of barbed wire.

In the old times I would run spring, summer and fall. Then go home for a while in winter. Pretty good back then.

One winter I experimented with dedicated pipe this way and chain that way on strictly I-10 for almost 6 months. Bypassed a tough winter that year. But that was quite enough for that poor truck accumulating repair needs faster than I can have a truckstop fix it. (Volvo, go figure) When I got it back to Indiana it was a sick truck with everything wrong with it including ECM that was failed (Bypassed by keeping engine going and stop watch on milemarkers etc)

Went home for a whole spring on that one. But after a while it's time to get out and get going.

Finally got into blacktop with dump truck. Work hard all spring, summer and fall and go home several months unemployment in winter. That was the best arrangement.

The company I'm at now let's me take weeks off to travel. I'll work for months at a time and take a few weeks off to travel. I think it's just comes down to letting the company know way ahead of time and using vacation or hometime wisely.

I've backpacked Germany, Turkey, the Pacific Northwest, Honduras, Belize, Mexico this year alone, and headed to Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam in January for 4 weeks.

    Its possible.
