Before I call recruiting, I was hoping some current drivers could give me some "real world" answers. I live in California, and was wondering if a new hire is instantly eligible for the Western region. Also, is home time "easier" to get because you live within the region, compared with running all 48? Lastly, if you do run Western, how often is your home time? Thanks.

You are eligible right from the start. Problem is there may not be an opening and many times there is a waiting list.925Ant Thanks this.

Ant, I'm two days away from flying to Lincoln for orientation at Crete. I live in Cali, and Western region is the only region they offered me, so you should be able to get that region too.925Ant Thanks this.

Two days off for every 12-14 on Western region is what I was quoted.

Looks like you did your homework and asked questions. Best of luck, I think you made a great choice...
JChors Thanks this. -
..you drivers in CA. ever check out Interstate or Gordon Trucking (GTI).. wish i had a $ for every one of their trucks i see on I-5; see more of those two going north & south than any other company here in Oregon.. don't know much about them but they seem to be always movin' so they must be getting the miles, since you wanted to stay on the West coast I thought I would mention those 2 companies.. just thought I would toss that bit of info out for your consideration..
I can't knock Crete from what I've heard & read about them (used to live in Lincoln, NE) & if you can get hired on with them I think you will do all right considering the current economic conditions.. from what I've read about the other bad/good trucking companies here on the forum I would consider Crete one of the better trucking companies as to how they treat their drivers. -
I worked for Interstate til Nov of last year. They are a decent company, have some of the best equipment around and a good maint dept. Unfortunately, they wouldn't rehire me in April. They used to rehire without having to go through another orientation if you took up to 6 months off, but that policy apparently changed while I was on my time off. Now, if you're off more than 45 days you're S.O.L.
I applied to Gordon in April and the hiring seemed to be going well when they suddenly said, "sorry, not enough freight near where you live", and that was the end of that.

Since ending my reset Friday Morning I ran a lil over 2600 miles, unloading in PA on Tuesday morning. I'm still at the WAWA in Allentown with about 5,000 other Cretians waiting for a load. I don't mind sitting ( I have too many 11 and 12 hour days in)
-
Got my preplan, even after sitting for 2 days, I'll end up with over 2850 miles Friday morning for this payweek. To all the drivers that said they were going to Boston's and never, I had a great time there, you really missed out.

Tucker, Have you been getting multiple load offers lately? Thanks
