Thanks Dwayne...you pretty much nailed everything though.

The one you speak of at US 27 (okeechobee rd) off of 826 is the Golds truckstop and they have a CAT scale there. That is the best one I can think of since so much freight comes/goes out of the NW quadrant anyway (826). I've heard there is a public scale somewhere in Pompano, but no clue just where.

The only time I really come out of Miami FULLY loaded is with tomatos (in season) outta Homestead, and there is a public scale a few blocks from Damari tomato house. I can drive to it but couldnt give good enough directions in words here. If you find yourself that far down, just ask someone down there, and they'll tell ya. Occasionaly I'll get partial produce outta opa loca, or Pompano, but no worries with weight there.

As for running the turnpike, depending on where ya jump on and off, it will cost slightly more than the $9.00 at a CAT scale, but obviously you probably want to scale out somewhere anyway LOL

I cant remember for certain if the Seminole further up 27 (2 miles south of I-75) has a scale...but I'm pretty sure not.

Like Dwayne mentioned - Golds is likely your best bet.

The most slack you will get in Florida is exacly 200 pounds. 80,220 or more is an automatic ticket. According to the scale master I spoke with (where I got my last overweight ticket LOL!) the weight is automaticaly recorded and they do not have the discression to "let it ride".

    How "overweight" are ya talkin?

You won't make it through Virginia either, anytime of day or night.

A new southbound coop is also in the works

    http://www.tcpalm.com/news/2009/jun/30/weigh-station-to-put-the-brakes-on-truckers/

Work will begin soon on the southbound weigh station, which will also take about two years to complete.
The southbound station, to be built by Cone & Graham Inc. of Tampa will cost only $13.9 million because it will be significantly smaller.
Frost said trucks can pass over the weigh in motion sensors in the northbound station at 45 mph, but newer technology will allow the southbound sensors to be installed in the main traffic lanes so trucks will not have to slow, with potential violators being directed off the highway into the weigh station for further inspection.
FDOT spokesman Chuck Joyce said the cost is also lower because construction materials are less expensive now than two years ago and contractors need the work more.
Joyce said another Treasure Coast road project, widening State Road 60 in Vero Beach, was estimated to cost $32 million, but the contract was let for $12.4 million.
Weigh stations are installed primarily to prevent overweight trucks from damaging highways, and also to catch trucks that might be safety hazards.
Frost said the Motor Carrier Compliance Office opted to build the northbound weigh station first because it is now the southernmost station on I-95 to catch violators coming from South Florida. Many southbound trucks already have passed through weigh stations in Flagler Beach and north of Jacksonville, Frost said.

Good I'm glad they're outrageously expensive. They sure don't look like it. A shack and a scale... good work for contractors. I was thinking it would be pretty easy to start adding them to all the US highways.

Seriuosly though, 16 to 32 MILLION? Doesn't it seem like they could build a 5 million dollar mansion there with indoor pools and a tennis court and stick a a scale out front? Would be a lot nicer and cheaper.

Well there is always a first for everything Ron. I really do not care if they scale me twice but would like to know why from members here.
