Commercial vehicle speeding violations up 8% in 2018

If you blame the ELD for speeding violations, than you used very little logic to come up with that conclusion. ELD don't do anything but display numbers and time. If you were a speeder on paper, you are a speeder on ELD. Now that majority of truckers are on ELDs, law enforcement can focus on other issues other than HOS. Think about it. You have 11 hours to drive a day, pretty long day. Why would you need to race the clock?

 

ELD didn't cause you to speed down the grapevine. I would more blame your selfishness and a total lack of judgment for that one. You've mentioned that in another thread before and I question why you would admit that on a public forum.

 

I still say trip planning. When it was paper, you could have one plan and not have to worry about traffic and such. No elds are here, if you don't have a plan B, C, and D, you didn't do enough planning

 

You have a bunch of inexperienced drivers on elog running up against the governor all day long playing beat the clock....So yeah ELD’s probably play a small part.

 

But they did that before the mandate. So you can almost draw the conclusion that the rise in speeding tickets since the mandate is due to the people that should know better.

 

This one right here. People don't change old habits that quick.

What I said was the lack of flexibility ELDs provided are some of the reasons drivers CHOOSE to speed in efforts to beat the clock. Key word is choose. Never said it makes it ok and or right. I know it’s selfish and reckless, but I’m also willing to admit I’m not a saint. Most of us broke a law or two in our life. I know ELDs are just a different way of keep track of your HOS, but they Record everything and that’s why drivers CHOOSE to speed because they can’t rewrite the logs if they go over their 11hrs. One thing your correct about, it’s the drivers that would have gone past the 11th hr that are speeding because some drivers won’t driver past the legal limit paper logs or not.
