    Another little maintenance tip.
Before winter gets real cold, steam clean your fifth wheel and blow all the excess grease and crud off it, then apply a thorough coating of grease with your finger to the slider locks, make sure the jaws are free of grease build up and grease any nipples you may have on the 5th wheel, not you or your girlfriend.

If there's too much accumulated grease on the 5th wheel parts, not the plate, things don't always work they way they should in the cold.
Too much grease can cause nightmares, gets to be like tar in cold weather and the jaws won't close sometimes, or only partially which could be very bad.

You beat me to it, just a plain old water hose works wonders when the sliders are stuck, but now it has morphed to a fifth wheel. lol

I use graphite in tiny amounts for the dry lubrication of computer controlled models, in this case either trains or radio controlled ships.

A word on that graphite, it gets into EVERYTHING. Including YOU in pathways you would not appreciate example your eyes.

It is a beautiful material but fair warning, it gets into everything.

I had a old lead graphite pencil when I was 6 a number two, anyway after sharpening to the Nth degree the #### thing got away and I did the natural reflex catch which penetrated the left palm and busted the point inside of it. It's coming on 50 years since that happened and no apparent issues. The body from time to time tries to wall off the object. Maybe one day I'll have saw bones get out his knife and suture kit and get down to it.

When it comes to the tandem pins, many drivers think that the pins are stuck when in fact they’re not. The problem is that there isn’t enough air in the system for the pins to retract. The solution is simple: once loaded, pull forward and only set the truck brakes and keep supplying air to the trailer while you close the trailer doors and check your BOL. By the time you’re done, the trailer will have more than enough air to easily slide the tandem. You may still need to lightly bump the tandem back or forward once, then try it again and the tandem should slide with ease. If not, there’s something mechanically wrong.

You’re right. Old trailer tandems require a handle to retract the pins. Most mega fleets have gotten rid of those trailers by now. Hahaha.
