    @Lepton1 this is more than likely what you saw, but at least yours put chains on the back.

    Ahh the good ol suicide coil, its to bad it couldnt take another dummy off the road, im sure he will get a new truck and keep hauling them the same way. Looks like he only had it in coil rack, no chains

    Vehicles under 10000 pounds only require two tie downs. They do have to be either in the provided frame hole, or over the wheel straps. 393.128 if you want to go look it up

    If you look on the previous page you will see where tow-drivers have an exemption to 393.128 for the next few years. The "Industry standard is four point tie down, two non-adjustable tie downs attached to the rear of the vehicle and then two adjustable chains used to secure the vehicle".

    393.128 would have required all four corners to be adjustable and they want to keep the rear tie downs as non-adjustable. So for now that is legal.

    393.128 states specifically;
    that is referring to tiedowns specifically designed for a purpose, a regular chain or strap isn’t subject to that requirement.
    Typical DOT bullcrap. They were writing tickets because two of the four tiedown weren’t adjustable and two were. Funny thing is only 2 are required. Kinda like when we chain something down, you can literally have 4 times the requisite securement but if one strap is loose they can write you for an unsecured load.

    Still winch cable dont count. 393.128 is correct. I am wrong. On the 4. I will say you will want 4 and is the preferred method in the industry. Even under 10k.

    Hammer166 Thanks this.
