I have been looking at KAG to get my foot in the door. If I am not mistaken, they pay 15/hour to start and not much over 40 hours a week. I COULD be wrong, I will find out for sure.
I applied at Nalco. I have the endorsements, but not the experience. Their ad didn't ask for experience, just asked for endorsements.
Around here (sw PA) there's also CLI Transport (Sheetz gas) and SourceOne (GetGo, Sonoco). I am still looking into tanks as I am trying to get into Conway, Central Transport, or FedEx.
Local fuel hauling jobs. Give it a try!!

Which Con-way terminal are you looking at? I know Irwin is actively looking for drivers - Neville Island and Lordstown, Oh are short staffed so I would imagine they are also. I know after our realignment we had a driver decline a transfer and went to CLI, from what I hear he likes it.mje Thanks this. -
I live in Rochester so Neville Island is closer. I applied there. The application sucks....ALL CAPS in little boxes!!!
Irwin is a bit of a hike, but my lease is up in October and wouldn't mind relocating, especially at the money they're offering!
CLI has gorgeous trucks, that much I do know. What's odd is that I would work there, but never would put Sheetz gas in my car!
I will look on the website (Con Way) to see where all they are hiring. I applied online to Pittsburgh (Neville Island told me it was actually Irwin). Tony G. or something...Or perhaps the name is backwards....Anyway, I guess time will tell. Neville Island claims they need help. Central Transport says they need help....How long does the hiring process take and whom would I call to bother about my application?mje Thanks this. -
I apologize because this is a thread for tanker yankers but is based on employment and truckdriver402 mentioned Con-way - I can't PM yet but can shed some light on the place for him and didn't know where else to do it.
I know drivers at both Neville Island and Irwin and both definitely need help. I really don't know how long the application process takes but for the first time in a while they have a pretty good bunch of applicants to choose from. At Irwin I would talk to the personnel supervisor, at Neville Island I would talk to the TM because I don't think they have a PS.
Those two terminals are night and day when it comes to the overall operation of each. Irwin is much bigger. It picks up and delivers areas like Monroville, Indiana, and up to Saxonburg but is also used as a line-haul terminal to link the Mid-Atlantic to the Mid-West. They send a bunch of guys to Hagerstown and Columbus each night to handle not only their own freight but the second day stuff also. Irwin is also a hub at night - a smaller one but an important one for next day freight. Neville Island handles only the freight they pick up and deliver - downtown Pittsburgh, McKees Rocks, and up to Butler. Generally speaking, you would move up on the board much faster at a bigger terminal like Irwin - not only do you see the increase in your own freight with growth, but when you are linking second day freight you get that growth also. The downside to that is it takes a small realignment in how they are moving freight or a loss of freight and you're out of a job. The smaller terminals are generally more consistent. I've worked at a couple terminals big and small and personally, I don't recommend one over the other as I think it is different at each but pretty much a wash.
I would not recommend moving to work here though till you see what it is all about. Most who quit leave within the first 6 months. If you only want to drive this is not the place to be especially starting out. You will spend a ton of time working the dock. If you do interview here, to their credit, they will not BS you. They will be honest about what they think you'll be doing when you start out. That said, in time you can make this a career instead of a job. We all whine and cry and swear this place is aligned with the devil but nobody quits once they have a little time in.
Here is a small pro and con list about starting out here.
Pro's - Financially well run company, in a great position given overall market conditions, paid for everything you do, home everyday, OT after 8, good overall benefits (took some cuts but I think we'll get them back - still pretty good though), ability to move up quick right now - know telling how many people will be hired by the end of the year - timing is critical at a seniority based job.
Con's - Erratic hours, ton of dock work, you get the old trucks, forced Saturday at times, little consideration given to your personal life, and some will treat you like crap at first - not all, some will help you in any way they can but others won't acknowledge you exist at first.
Having been here a little while now I would leave the industry if this job ever ended. Been here a little less than six years and dealt with all the new guy stuff. Now, I have enough seniority to bid road or city. I always did P&D till this year I decided to make the money on line-haul. I'll make 80K this year running a shorter run. If I bid longer next year I'll make 90K home every day. LTL is not for everyone but it is the only segment I would work now.truckdriver402 and mje Thank this. -
Hey, to the defense of me and the thread, I also mentioned KAG and other tanker jobs!
I am happy I have my endorsements now! I have a few applications in with several tanker companies (CLI Transport, KAG, Ports Petroluem Co, and Nalco).
Tanks sounds cool, but I am reading this thread to learn more. I wonder how they will handle in the snow!!!
Hey Jakebrake....Hurry up and get 50 posts!!! I don't want to (and didn't mean to) hijack this thread. I can definitely live with the pros and cons you mentioned. I don't mind dock work at all. Just to get in the door, I would do dock work wearing concrete shoes and standing on my hands!
I am used to hauling mail, so weekends, holidays and erratic hours don't bother me at all. However, unlike mail, it would be great to have a decent company to work for. Most mail contractors are crooks.mje Thanks this. -
Any body have any info on any fuel hauler company that might me hiring in chattanooga tn
mje Thanks this. -
A quick search of Indeed says the only one hiring in Chattanooga in Schneider for tanker.
I am not sure what cities are around you, but that's how I am looking. Indeed has been great. Type in whatever job you're looking for (CDL Driver) and the city and state. It searches (and pulls) many jobs from the lists and newspapers. Also, I've had some luck with Craigslist.
Hope this helps you....mje Thanks this. -
Some good first-hand info, thanks. For the benefit of previous OP's, please give NALCO info for recruiting. I had promised to get it from a friend, but haven't been in contact and feel I have let them down by failing to come through. It is an awesome company to work for, any help would be appreciated. Thanks again!mje Thanks this.

I just went to their website (Google them - they don't like links in the posts) and looked for openings. They have an opening in my area (very close to me).mje Thanks this.

I Googled them; but, these are employment sites that supposedly send your app to Nalco. Nalco's site list Careers; but, they are all technical careers, none driver-related. I've searched high and low for a Nalco website and it is clear that they have NO PROBLEM getting drivers. If you have read my posts on this thread about them you will see why. I had a friend who worked for them and let me tell you, few companies (that I am aware of) compare to them. As for posting links: You can't post links to other trucking forums, to job recruiting sites, or commercial sites. If it is job related, such as the web address for a company an OP is searching for I think it is okay. Nevertheless, don't post the link. I will check it out and see if it is okay and let you know. That's if the address you have is the company site, not a recruiting site. Thanks.mje Thanks this.
