The injectors do not even touch the injector tube. The tube only keeps coolant away from the injectors.
Most of the chips stick to the cutter which I wipe off after each cut.
After the seat cleans up, I insert a strong magnet down into the piston chamber, which sucks up the small amount of cast iron powder which may have fallen there. After the first fire of the piston, the little bit of powder which remains, will go out the exhaust.

I'll try again.
This is a cutaway of a Cat C-15 head. I have received several questions as to why not just replace the injector tube. As you can see, the injector seats entirely on the head. The injector does not even touch the tube. If the injector seat in the head is not true, the combustion leaks past the seat and comes up along side of the injector. The combustion then reaches the injector fuel o-ring and it is only a matter of time until it fails. The only way to correct the problem, is to true up the injector seat, or replace the head. A reman head could be somebody else's problem head just like yours.Last edited: Aug 12, 2013

I am finding that this can also cause soot accumulation in the fuel system.

Is this still possible to have done?

Yes. Call me. 717-368-8532

I’m new to the forms and I’m not sure where to go for my problems. I have a 1999 kw T800 heavy spec truck, 1998 1LW cat 3406e and it’s has been nothing but a problem. Now my Bottom injector o-rings keep burning up. Fuel in oil, no coolant in oil, no fuel in coolant. All 6 lower injector o-rings burned away in under 50 miles. I had a platinum rebuild done 30k miles ago. Every fuel line, and ever part that has anything to do with the fuel system is new. Housings, pump, fuel cooler, pressure valve, hoses, all engine sensors, I mean everything. Well Except wire harness. Fuel pressure at idle is 100 psi and gradually gets as high as 140psi at wide open throttle. Turbo temp is low like 300-900 at peak, coolant temp never above 210. I have dumped at least 50k into this POS truck. Factory Peterbilt and cat specialist are s helping me with this truck. He is even stumped. Truck starts right up, but vibrates under a load. It pings and cylinders are definitely miss firing. We install new orings and it runs good for about 50 miles. Burns up a o ring and the cycle begins again. I can’t afford to spend any more money. This is my last ditch effort any direction or help is appreciated -
@Truck engine machinist speaks truth. this was the exact issue on my 6NZ after a platinum in-frame. if it happens again on this new head, I'll be flying him to northern Alberta.
