    Have a 2006 Mack Conventional and I am a company driver. The automatic transmission locked in 5th gear. Hobbled it to the tank wash crossed the street at 0930 on Monday 07/20/2009. Not having a tow truck or fork lift had to wait an hour for a commercial tow truck company to haul it crossed the street. I waited six hours later to get the diagnosis. Parts overnighted it would be fixed by the nest morning. They provided a ride to the local Baymont. Next morning came and all was shifted to 1800 and the final work was scheduled for the next morning at 0800-1000 for a warranty item computer module shift changer. Also had windshield drapes and a clogged A/C drain added since we were jerking around waiting for the transmission part. Called the shop manager 1000 on 07/21/2009 for a round trip to the shop and back after two calls promising a ride in a half hour he informed me it was a convenience, I said you didn't say that two hours ago, it's 1242 and still waiting. All things considered if its not a warranty item go else ware where you are less likely to be bull_hitted on the ETA and left hanging for a ride.

    Sheesh!

    I've been to some Mack dealers. One did not diagnose a problem correctly. A week later, went to another. Correct diagnosis, no parts to fix. Go to another, have to spend the night, but truck is fixed.
    Another problem, company had me go to a T/A. They couldn't figure it out. Go to the nearest Mack, 8 hours later and two wires that were cut and crimped together, problem solved.
    And, one in Columbus, Oh, sat there for 8 hours to replace a part the size of my cell phone.
    Oh well. What can you do?

    When I was pulling a tanker we had Macks. If you broke down on the road any where except in front of a Mack parts distributor you were SOL. Any place I ever broke down they had to order the parts, and I got to sit in a motel for two days.

    I tow a lot of those CT trucks to the dealer here and its generally a day or 2 for parts to get in...

    But got to say that they have a "GREAT WARRANTY" system which pays us...

    Had a Mack one time, that the anti-freeze tank started turning dark. Every day, when I checked the oil, that tank just kept getting darker, and darker. Took it to a company shop, and they pulled the oil dipstick to see if it was frothy, thinking it might be cross contamination. It wasn't, so they just said somebody put oil in there by mistake. They drained the system, took off the tank and cleaned it out, put it all back together.
    A week later it was just as dark. Everybody kept dismissing it as 'operator' error.
    One time it wouldn't start. Called it in, they asked me to unplug the coolant sensor and jump it. It worked. I told them what the problem was, and said this thing has an internal problem. They got me to the main shop. I had to INSIST on some major tests. They finally determined that one of the cylinder sleeves had worn through. It was letting oil into the anti-freeze, but not the other way around. I had to change trucks, so it could go in for an engine rebuild.

    But, all in all, I was comfortable in a Mack Vision 427. I drove a Freightliner Century class, and felt so out of place. There were things I liked about both.
