I've had luck sliding the hub forward with the fan attatched & dropping the belts behind the hub.
Remove the harmonic balancer on 3406 to get to fan belt?

The truck is a 1993 Freightliner conventional. There is some room between the radiator
and the fan hub but not enough to do yoga exercises. lol
I have started working on it and the nuts/bolts to the fan are coming off fairly easy. I don't
know what is going to come tumbling off in my hands but I am making progress.
Thanks for help!rank Thanks this. -
mine is a '99 T800 3406E

On my 95 379 I have to remove the blade from the hub then loosen hub belt tensioner to get belts off,,removing the fan blade results in loss of skin around knuckles
-
My 88 pete with 3406B I could remove the fan blades. a little snug but it was quick
My 96 pete with 3406C I had to unbolt the hub and slide the belts on from behind
This is a job you want to do at home not on the side of the road with a hot engine.
Repair before failure -
The job was easier than I thought. I removed the fan from the hub and then cut the old belt off because it was too big to slide out. Since the pulley can be adjusted a whole bunch, I bought the two belts but at an inch and a half larger size. They slid over everything fairly easy. I then adjusted the
pulley to make them tight and it works fine.
Thanks everybody for the help! -

You're making this way too hard. All you need To do is loosen The fan shroud Bolts that are around the outside of the fan shroud you will see that they are slotted. There is a Bolt in the center of the top of the fan shroud that also needs to be removed. You slide the fan shroud Down Until you can loosen the fan hub Down With the center adjustment Bolt Far enough to remove or replace the belts. No need to remove the fan.No need to remove the fan hub from the front of the engine.Any questions?
