Wound up signing up for Millenicom and the package should arrive by Express Mail on Friday. Have been using AT&T Wireless MediaNet prepaid data packages by bluetooth PAN to supplement dial-up and occasional free wi-fi, but my usage has gone up much more than I thought it would when I switched from my 7 year old Fujitsu subnotebook to a 13" MacBook Pro. Almost signed up for a Virgin Mobile Broadband2Go USB stick, but decided against it because would use probably 40-50 mb a day on average, and that would exceed their largest refill size plus Virgin Mobile doesn't directly support Mac at the current time (although possible to activate on a PC then transfer the modem to a Mac or Linux machine). With Millenicom I figure the price will be competitive because the $60/month for 5 gb is all inclusive and there's no 2 year contract (good in this economy). Did decide on the "buy the modem" rather than the lease option (personal preference on owning the equipment if possible). Didn't bother to try to get my Slingshot modem reactivated with Millenicom; probably will just donate it to a cellphone recycler that benefits a charity or sell it for a few bucks for parts on ebay (will have to make it plain that it the ESN may not be able to be cleared with Sprint). Also bought an antivirus software package for my Mac after downloading the trial version...Macs aren't as big a computer hacker target as PC's, but don't want to take chances.
