I'm pleased to hear that they have improved their accomodations, but as you note, you could still only take it for one night. I was totally apalled that a company of that size would provide such a meager welcome.

You know what they say....First impressions are the longest lasting...

And to their credit, outside of that one thing that wouldn't allow me to go any farther with them, I was impressed with the company as well at the time, right up to the point that I entered that building.

Hey...that's life. During the period of time that this happened, I had been trying to place drivers with other companies, because things had become outrageously bad where they were, and I had checked out three companies in a row, that had told one lie after another to get me to sign on with them. The worst I can say about the recruiter in this case, was that he slightly "embellished" the facts, to make things appear a bit more comfy than they actually were.

But make no mistake...what I typed up there was EXACTLY what happened that night, and what I saw. I'm not a person who thinks that I am necessarily better than someone else, but I treasure my privacy, a comfortable temperature, and a soft bed when I sleep. At the very least, I want to KNOW a person who is in the same room with me while I am unconscious.

Don't know what Celadon you drive for, but it sure isn't the same one I drove for! There isn't a van in Greensboro. Rest assured, Greensboro isn't Indy. As far as getting a driver home by noon; that's never happened! I was lucky to get home the day after I requested, in fact, the DM's recommed that you put in for a day or two before you actually want off just to ensure that you get home in the ball park! You want to sound off for Celadon, by all means, but I'm not going to let another driver be misled. Sure, I made a big mistake with the random drug test, I don't need that pointed out. I'm not dodging responsibility for my actions. I just don't want to see another fellow trucker make the same mistake I made. Not with the random or with this great company of yours. Good luck to you driver, you may need it more than me.

Wonder what that was I used last month to run to the drug store for a prescription?
Maybe yours did, If you let it happen, Oh Well
Again, I'm not recruiting for Celadon, I just felt your 1st post was a bit unfair to what most there feel is a VERY GOOD company. Frankly it had the taste of someone who was headed home when they were hit w/a random test, got PO'ed and made some VERY BAD decisions that resulted in them getting fired & DAC'ed.
I only wish it was mine!!!
I may very well need it (luck) but after being fired & DAC'ed for failing to submit to a random drug test I'm sure I won't need it more than you.
    Best Wishes

Sounds like a frickin recruiter. I had a buddy that worked for Celadon and he didn't have many good things to say about them and this was while he was working there. My buddy had many many years driving before Celadon, too; so I respect his opinion.

Hi everyone: I am only going to jump in this conversation to say a few things to both that are bickering over the company of Celadon. This takes driver side and Driver Manager!

I say sometimes it really depends on who your dispatcher is as far as loads, getting home etc. and it also depends on the driver himself/herself, some drivers (and I am not saying anyone on this board by any means) tend not to run many miles and want to get home for this and that or when they get to certain states they want to play for a day.
IF you are not happy with a Driver Manager due to miles, pay etc. then ask for a new one, if you get a new one and the problems still exsist, you might look @ yourself, like attitude is one issue some have (just like the Driver Manager could be the problem cause he has an attiude daily)
are you there to run @ least steady hours a week. Ask other drivers do you have any problems with your driver manager and ask the driver managers name, then ask a bunch of drivers (within the company) and see if you get a repeated answer of several and ask for that one and the company will try their hardest to make you happy:smt041 ! Don't quit over silly stuff or someone else, quit when you have tried everything and nothing is working! Also before you quit make sure you go all the way to the top to solve your problem. You will be suprised in he issue you have might be taken care of and you are even happier! Sometimes the owners do not know what is going on between the driver & Dispatcher. Senority does mean allot to you and the company when reviewing you! Trucking companies are trying to keep the drivers they currently have since they claim there will be a driver shortage. If you mess up for a major reason unfortunately they must let you go:laughing9: . This is why they hounded the guy that left orientation, they wanted you back and yeah the recruiter worked hard (maybe) on getting you in and she/he lost you she/he was probably sad:(

As for the Dorm, I have heard many stories and the guy should have been @ least a little more comforting to you, but the fact was there was nothing he could do and he gets asked it several times so he is frustrated for you because he can't do anything, but you are correct he should have been @ least a little sympathetic and I would have been if it was me:biggrin:

I would say Mr. Turbo, I am so sorry but there is nothing I could do for you, but if you have extra money for a room I would be glad to call a hotel room down the road and have my van driver take you there, but that is about all I can do unfortunately and I would have given you a sad smile and you may have wanted to slap me but @ least I know I tried to handle the situation a little better! Would you have stayed with them if I would have been there? I know I would not want to sleep in a room with a stranger and when I heard they are double bunked I thought OMG gross!

They have improved some! I believe there is only 2 in a room now (not sure though)! Holly?

Also I always try the rule of thumb, give it a month @ least if you feel like quiting because we all have bad days and maybe I am having one and I don't even realize it, wow I quit a 1,000 times in my head but today I love my job! Of course I am female you know:biggrin:
Ok sorry so long winded just some motherly advice to everyone who is a good working truck driver!

I hope everyone had a great TURKEY DAY and I hope you got home "if you wanted to go home and gain 10 lbs"

Yes, only 2 beds in a room. My main reason for only staying 1 night was I smoke and it being a work place IN law says you can't smoke in the building. I was going to be there 3 days for Stoops to fix my truck so I wanted a few more comforts, INTERNET, coffee pot, ash try, etc.
It did bother me that someone may have missed out on a good opportunity because of some jerk at the dorm office. I think I know who it would have been and he can be a little cold. He is one of the van drivers by the way but does sit in when one of the ladies is away.
It's not good to lose someone because of 1 rude employee.
And yes I ate WAY TO MUCH TURKEY!!!!

C'mon, don't you think that this is hitting a little below the belt?

What happened to him, was a result of him making a mistake in judgment, out of desperation to get home without an unreasonable delay. And despite the fact that he could have made a wiser decision, and the fact that the company offered him no assistance to rectify the taking of the test immediately AND providing him the legal avenue to get home as well, is a credible reason why all of this went south, and just that quickly.

We don't know for sure what calibur of driver this man is, but I am betting that he did a decent job for them, and now they are a decent driver short. They lost something as well, and all of it could have been prevented, had the parties involved taken enough time to assist him in assessing his hours available, and finding the best way to follow the rules in regard to the random test, and to see that he got home without delay following the test.

I find it unfortunate that this was not done, or that the chain of communication was that broken, to a point that this unfortunate result was the end result. The driver is out on his ***, and will have to rebuild his reputation from square one as a suspected drug user, but those who contributed to the circumstance will be back after the holidays to continue on with their crap next week.

I have an extremely low tolerance for any company, or employee behind a desk who is indifferent in seeing that a driver gets home to his family, when it is time to get hime there.

The timing stunk, they knew it stunk, and because it stunk and they were not willing to compromise in the least, and the man threw caution to the wind, like any of us might do if pushed hard enough, when that eight foot by eight foot cell starts closing in.

At the very least, a little consideration could have been made to inquire to what the driver had planned once he arrived in Greensboro. His driver manager was well aware that he had plans to go home. Safety could have been notified that with the hours available to him at the moment, it may present an inconvenience to the driver, and Safety could have legally allowed for a delay in notifying the driver of his selection, and resuming the plan to notify him when his hometime was up. In other words, there are alternative ways that the company could have handled this as well, and they would then not BE a decent driver short.

It's too bad that more time is not taken by those empowered to run a company, whose goal you would think, is to retain a staff of employees, and not look for ways to stick it into the rear ends of them. But...this is America, and that seems to be the American way to do things these days.

It's not the first time that the subject has come up, and it surely will not be the last time either.

What I DO know is that rubbing his nose in the dirt isn't very productive.
