Hello there,
I was wondering if there is any trucking companies out there in the states that would hire people from overseas based on a 2 year contract or something?
I would really like to find out and get a definite answer if possible, as some people yes and some others say no.
I have no criminal records and also have a 4 year college degree in English studies, so language barrier isn't an issue.
Thanks a lot,
Abdou.

I've heard about 2 companies that do that. One was TLI out of Arkansas. Russellville, I think and also Hogan Leasing out of St. Louis, Mo. This was awhile back, so things could be different. Also was chatting with a driver from New Zealand on the C/B. He comes here and works 9 months, runs team, then goes home for 3 months. I don't know what company he drove for, sorry.
P.S. I think TLI stands for Transco Lines inc, but not sure.

Thanks a lot for your prompt reply sir!
I will google the companies you mentioned and hopefully they'll have some websites with detailed info.
Thank you once again

Hello

A Visa and a Green Card allows you to work in the USA.
Valid Drivers License w/ CDL, you would have to transfer to an American License w/i 30 days, unless given an extension.
(Student, possible dual Citizenship..)
In the state that I live in, if you move (W/I the state, or out of state) you must transfer license w/i 30 days.
Requirements for Trucking Companies:
(Usually include the following criteria, but are not limited to what I list)
~ Valid CDL
~ Valid DOT Medical
card
~ Background Check
~ Motor Vehicle Report (MVR)
~ Pass drug screening
~ Ability to read/ write and comprehend the English language
You will be representing the company that you work for, so you must be able to communicate with them/ for them, on all levels.
The problem you will encounter the most is the severe lack of available work.
Best to you!!! -
Thanks Kickin Chicken.
I know that a visa is needed to work in the US but that's why I was wondering if companies offer work on a contract basis so that you get a visa based on the lenght of the contract.
I can also figure that I'll have to switch to a valid American driver's licence and that my licence will only be valid for a certain period of time (one to three months at best.)
The other requirements, I have no problem with. Have a clean record, don't smoke or drink nor did I ever get anywhere near drugs, no health problems, etc... And as mentioned previously, I hold a 4 year college degree in English studies so wiriting/reading/speaking English would never be a problem. On top of that, actually, I can even sound American or British! (I am into accents, lol
)
Thanks for the advice, wishes and enlightenment kickin chicken

You are very welcome

You do not have to find a company that offers a contract. You can get an employer to fill out the proper paperwork to get your extended Visa.
I am not an advocate for contracts. It does not offer you the job security that you may hope it would/could or should.
There are many trucking companies listed on these boards.
My suggestion is to search and research. (Homework)
You are the only one who will know what will suit you.
I will PM you a list of companies to start your research with.
My father is Hungarian and holds a dual Citizenship. He came to America as a Refugee of War in 1956.

Thanks a lot man! I really appreciate your help

I have been doing some homework these days and being a member of these awsome forums is part of that homework. I contacted one of Schneider offices by email a few days ago and the reply I got was :"We require for all our new drivers to have a class A CDL with 6 months safe driving experience. We prefer at least 3 months OTR experience."
I asked for a little more information after that but I haven't got any response ever since.
I love the trucking industry in the US and how well organized it is compared to other places. I have friends that do international (long haul from my country Morocco, to and througout all Europe) and said I could join them after a year or so once I gained enough experience. But I am not that interested in Trucking in Europe. The big American rigs impress me, the thought of exploring the vast American land and experiencing the culture, are some of the factor that make me want to consider the US first. I have good friends in many states (NY, TX, FL, WA, CA, IL, NC, VA, KS, OK...) and most of them said why not give it a try, so that's what I am doing right now
Thank you once again

To KC,
I have never been to the US before. I have a cdl class A, but I am not an immigrant nor a resident in America. I live in Morocco at the moment.
I just wanted to let you know that just in case you thought I was living in the states.
You can check my profile if you have the time and you'll find my hotmail addy there just in case you wanted to send a message so then I can reply directly. I can't reply to your PMs here until my posts reach the number 50.
I have sent a few emails to some companies and awaiting some replies. I hope they'll get in touch.
Once again KC, I thank you and appreciate all your help. You made me feel so welcome here

kickin chicken Thanks this.
