Hi!
I am a IT Tech from California. And I am sick of my job. I grew up in Wyoming and always wanted to drive trucks. My question is, is there a trucking company, that can training me to get my CDL, plus that runs though California, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, all the western states? And let's you have decent home time? I am new to this so, if anyone could give me some advice I would really apprecitae it.
Thanks

Crete, Swift, Stevens, USA Truck, CR England, Central, these are you main "CDL Mills" which provide training and jobs for their grads. Many people will make comments on who to go thru but just remember, do your research on the companies. Try to stay away from england, and Stevens doesn't let you take your truck home unless you have a locked and secure yard.
Main tip...
Even if it they make it sound soooooo good for you and tell you how much money you can make DON'T LEASE A TRUCK! the only time this really works is if yo are a team or a trainer so 4000 miles a week can hit your rig.
I WISH YOU GOOD LUCK! -
Biggeno,
Thanks for the advise
I appreciate it. One more question is you don't mind. With our recession right now, is there still jobs in trucking?

Check out Navajo Express, out of Denver, Andrus out of St. George, Ut, Motor West, out of Caldwell, Id.

I am looking myself, but its not easy since I haven't been in the saddle for the past 3 years. Keep looking and good luck!

Also check out Watkins Sheperd, (spelling?) out of billing, MT. There are a couple threads about them on here.

I'm gonna assume that you have checked out other posts here about Swift, JB Hunt ,USXpress, Stevens, Werner , ect. If you haven't, do yourself a favor, check out other posts. Remember this, a driver recruiter is a SALESMAN. It is his job to sell you on his company. Some of what they say is outright lies, some is outdated information, some is honestly incorrect,if they have been given incorrect information. Some of it is correct, but may change by the time you get hired.
So who can you trust ? No one in the trucking business.
If you can afford it, check to see if community colleges in your area have CDL classes. They are usually MUCH MUCH cheaper than a "truck driving school" and have better training. That way you are not tied to anyone financially. Good Luck -
You checked out maverick?

bad timing

Right now it's hard for well seasoned drivers to find a decent job. I'd wait until the economy turns around before jumping in.
