There are a lot of folks out of work. Carriers are not hiring in certain areas due to lack of freight. So I got curious after having a discussion with another driver. Just how many drivers who are out of work, were forced to quit or terminated, because their company wanted to downsize the fleet.
If this has happened to you, or someone that you know, please post your experience.

Fired here. They said I had too many log book violations. I had 1 logbook violations. Not having my hours of service current. Then I had to haul 2000 lbs plus of gear and stuff I had in truck home from the terminal which I had no money from. they decided to keep my last check for 45 days. I hope they call me back when it's busy again. So I can laugh at them for asking.

Truck was repo'd while I was in it. Pilot TS Baldwin Fl. Sucked big time, so not really fired, just had nothing to drive. The boss did come pick me up.

yea got my stuff out. 3AM I get woken up, a man standing inside the truck, he shows me the repo paperwork. Standing outside, county deputy, just in case I guess. This repo guy was decent, gave me an hour to get my gear out. Repo man was chasing me down I95 from Virginia, when I finally stopped he caught up with me. Funny now, but scary when it happened.

Back in January, got a message about a fleet downsizing and cutting a few hundred drivers. I called dispatch and asked them if I lost my job. They said, "Hell no! Not you!"

Had some of the guys I look after all call me and ask me what was going on. I told them that everyone that was going to get cut has already been cut.
They had orientation that week hiring more drivers. How can you downsize if you are still hiring? Theyre not downsizing, theyre trimming the fat. Like the NFL...bring new talent in and get cutting the slackers in order to win the big game.

Are they wrong to do that? No. Just make sure youre nowhere near the bottom of the pile and youre safe.

What they are usually doing is pushing higher paid drivers out the back door and bringing lower paid drivers in the front door...

It is not the bottom or the top you want to be at when you work for a screwed up company. I see it at alot of companies. The good people realize how screwed up it us and leave on their own. The bad people get fired and the people in the middle move up and the cycle of being a screwed up company continues.

No where near the bottom, very close to top.

And now they are paying unemployment.
