I've been reading all kinds of posts about both Roadmasters and Central's training programs and I've spoken to both of their recruiters several times, but each one of them trash talk the other enough that I would love to hear from someone the knows a little about both of them and can draw a somewhat clearer picture for me.

Is it worth the $6000+ for Roadmasters compaired to 12 mos endentured servitude with Central?
I'm dealing with the West Valley City, Utah schools for both companies.
Are either of these worse than the other?

I have a tentative start date of August 10th for the Central training program, but also have an on-site tour set up for next week with Roadmasters, so time is of the essence here.

If your comments are controversial enough, send me a PM instead.

    Thank you in advance!

It appears that the Feds may make my decision for me. They are willing to put up $4000 towards driving school, but I'll need to take the training from Roadmasters. They don't consider the training from Central or other trucking companies as valid for their program.

The curious thing is, most folks are quoting $6000 to $6500 for the Roadmaster course, and I have a letter from the head of the school in West Valley City, Utah to the feds telling them that it will only run me $3700 and that includes the hazmat endorsement.

    Curious no?

The way I understood Roadmasters was that it was about 4495 if you paid cash, and 6495 if you financed it.

Okay. That makes more sense. Maybe I'm getting a discount because I won't need any housing or extra food where I live 10 minutes away.

I went to Roadmaster. I paid cash. The school is only 10 minutes away from my house. I'm not sure why you were told $3700.00 unless they simply charge less for that particular school in general.

FWI... roadmaster won't train you for any endorsements. Well... at least the one I attended didn't.

It appears that this school may do a little more than some of the others. In the letter Roadmasters wrote to the Workforce Services folks, it does explicitly list the Hazmat background check and Hazmat and doubles/triples endorsements as options.

I hope they are able to follow through with that. It would be good to have the extra endorsements to offer a prospective employer.

The HAZMAT background check is done by the TSA. Nothing any school can do about that. They may help you with the forms and may help you study for the written exam, but that's about it.

    lhoward62 Thanks this.

Well, I guess that's better than nothing. Every little bit helps when you're trying to get hired. Thanks for your comments!:yes2557:

Just finished with my interview for the WIA money. Everything looks good and should take about 16 or 17 days according to the individual I spoke with.

I've also just received a call from Werner Trucking stating that I'm good with them as a pre-hire. Maybe this will actually happen.

I've still got several pre-hire applications out there, and there are at least two companies that wanted me to wait until after I finished school to apply with them.
